Hi,

My heart is with you. My son was similar when his OCD was

going through the really rough period. For us,

he wasn't in any shape to " talk " , he truly needed the medicine

to function. I know it is scary thinking about medicating

your sweet 8 year old daughter. It was so hard for me to

begin medicating my son. In our situation, I had to finally admit

the OCD was life-threatening ( he couldn't eat or drink...).

As a mom, you do have a strong inner maternal voice,

I would encourage you to prayerfully listen and be brave.

Obviously, you are struggling to know what is right to do.

These moms here are wonderful in sharing what they have been through

with their own kids. You won't find a better place to be

embraced and loved!

I will pray that you can see clearly what is going on

with your daughter, and connect with someone here as a new friend

who has had to make the same decisions with their younger child.

There are answers, so don't be discouraged!!

Praying for you,

Marcia

Welcome!  I'm Kathy, and my daughter Joei is 11 and was diagnosed with OCD last

summer. I'm glad you are here. This group has kept me sane on some days I

thought I would lose it for good!

Thank you so much! I am thrilled to hear from so many people who

understand. I am also going to check out the books. I do not know how

to respond to everyone all at once - and I don't want everyone to get

a repeat email in their box soooo, thank you! thank you. I don't feel

so alone in this journey. I am hopeful I will get a Doc. soon for my

daughter that will work with the ERP/CBT type of therapy. I am hoping

the books will also give me some tools to help her. I think I may

give her counselor a copy as well.

Thank you so much and I am sure I will be reading and learning

through everyone!

You are welcome. :o) So glad you found us.

We all have learned and with that comes the potential for improvement.

.. .Which is the goal. Knowledge is definitely power.

Some places to try for therapists are. . .

ocfoundation.org

anxiety clinics

find a local OCD support group, and ask for any recommendations

I found all 3 to be helpful when looking for a therapist. Be willing

to interview them though, to make sure they not only understand CBT,

because it is used for things other than OCD too (so much be used

specifically for OCD to help with it), but ERP, which is key to them

improving.

This is a great place to learn too. Many here have been through much

and are willing to share what has helped. If you have any specific

questions, post them to the group, and you will get replies. There

are many helpful, caring people here, who get what you are going

through. You are not alone. :o)

,

My daughter really like the book " What to do when your brain gets stuck. " She

seems to be able to discuss things very " adult like " for an 8 year old, but it

is so tricky to try to " fight it " when she is feeling those intense feelings. I

am so thankful I finally found this site. I do not know anyone who is going

through this. And honestly, I am afraid to talk to too many people (I live in a

small town - and you know how ppl can talk). I feel like I found a place where

ppl understand in this group. Thank you for your thoughts and ideas!

Hi there,

Just wanted to say welcome, missed your first post. I wondered if

you have already checked out the ocfoundation website? You might get

a lead on a therapist who does CBT/ERP there, and they have lots of

other information. Also check out the links and files section on

this site, I didn't really notice them for the longest time when I

first joined. Lots of info about medications and treatments which

can help you with decisions. Although at some point it can be a bit

of information overload...

Just wanted to suggest that the crying may be more of an OCD thing

that necessarily because of the medication. I have seen others post

about this sort of thing. Ours would be " suspicious " of the

medication, some obsession and would stop them off and on, so the OCD

can tell them all kinds of things.

Hang in there and keep posting, great bunch here.

Warmly,

Barb
