Guest guest
Yes. This is how things started for Joei. I remember the day it started, it was July 1. We were sitting at a stop light on the way home from work and she just turned white and said " I don't feel right " and started bawling. This went on for 3 days. Fast forward a few weeks and include trips to the ER which included one ambulance ride because she was so worked up that the hives were taking over her throat and the advice nurse advised me to call 911. I think we had something like 5 trips to the ER in July. Looking back, it was all produced by anxiety. The first time we realized it might be anxiety and OCD was after a wonderful psychologist visited us in the ER because Joei was having trouble getting rid of the picture in her mind of stabbing herself. I think that was the scariest night of my life. Talk about feeling lost! All of Joei's OCD centers around her health or thought of harm to herself. She can obsess on the smallest of things. The good news though, is that with what little CBT we know and her meds, she has not obsessed but once (and only slightly) while down with a nasty virus this week. Her anxiety has been very low as well. Not to bad for a sick, OCD child with a lot of time on her hands while home from school for 3 days :-) _____ From: [mailto: ] On Behalf Of svdbyhislove Sent: Wednesday, November 19, 2008 11:48 AM To: Subject: [sPAM] Re: Question regarding meds & therapy -Kathy and Carla Healthy choice, Kathy (with family). I've done the same here. You have to, or else it eats at you. Interesting, Kathy, while I was looking up the TS stuff for another post, I found this in Dr. Wagner's book too. . . . Thought you would find this interesting too, Carla. *********************** Telltale Signs of OCD - FREQUENT PHYSICAL COMPLAINTS - Nausea, vomiting, feeling on edge, or many aches and pains for which no medical cause can be found many point to underlying anxiety REASSURANCE SEEKING - If your child has OCD, you will find that no amount of answering satifies him. " Am I going to OK, do I have a brain tumor, am I going to thro up? " " Can you fel my forehead and see if I have a fever? " ************************ So, anyway, I found it interesting that she used " health " reassurances for her example, like Joei does, Kathy. And if I understand it right, the frequent physical complaints are prompted by the anxiety that is associated with OCD. Which is what I chalked it up to with my husband and son. Is that what you both think Dr. Wagner meant too?
