Hello All,

What's your experience with Abilify?

My son, who is 17 will start this. He has OCD only. He was admitted in

the hospital last night, he had been extremely threatening and defying

lately to the point where his psychiatrist thought this was a good option.

He is very angry at me because of this, but I had to avoid something

really bad happening.

Has anybody have this happened

Any input will be appreciated.

My oldest daughter is on Abilify, along with Luvox for her OCD. The Abilify

is a mood stabilizer and also " boosts " the performance of the Luvox. We

weaned her off of it during the summer at the request of a doctor who did not

prescribe it and she did fine for a little while. We put her back on it when

her mood changed and she developed ticks and an inability to function. She

fell behind in school about four weeks and was unable to do much of anything

without it. Three days after putting her back on it, she was fine. It was

amazing. Now we know she really needs it and we understand how well it works

for her. Interestingly enough, my other daughter, , was also taken off of

Abilify at the same time. She has not needed to go back on it and is also

doing well. Hannah has taken Abilify for the last five or so years.

took it or another mood stabilizer for about eight years. Hannah just turned

eighteen and is fifteen. We used to call it the " anti-screaming " pill

because it made stop screaming when she was younger. I hope your son

shows some improvement. Kelley in NV

Hi Silvia,

My 7 yr old son is on Abilify with Luvox.  He has OCD and Bipolar , so we can't

go up on the Luvox unless we also go up on the Abilify. My experience is that if

you use the anti-psychotic alone, it will intensify the OCD. You must have an

SSRI with it.My son has been horrendous lately. He has gained weight and needs a

raise in the Abilify. He rages all day. He screams, spits, hits, etc, etc.He

doesn't listen to anything I say, and punishments and time outs are just not

effective. I'm hoping his doctor will raise the meds again, or he will have to

be hospitalized also. I haven't had him hospitalized yet, but my daughter (12)

has been there twice, and I know how hard it is.

With your son being 17, you really have to consider how dangerous he could

become if he is acting out. I think you did the right thing by hospitalizing

him.

Hang in there! It will get better!

We are all here if you need to talk.

Hugs

Judy
