Guest guest
Hi Staci, I noticed tic symptoms in my daughter numerous times over the years before she was on lexapro or any other diagnosis. She was on risperdol and trileptal when she was having tics. The symptoms were definitely stress related. So, when the stress went down the tics subsided. It sounds like your daughter's life is more negatively impaired by the OCD than by the tics. It also sounds like your therapist thinks that once the tics kick in they might not go away. Is that based on it becoming a habit that's hard to base or research that shows medication induced tics become permanent? Meds are so complicated that I would speak to the psychiatrist about your concerns. Kids are also complicated so I believe there is a good chance that the tics are stress related that could be due to the holidays and change in therapist. There is certainly no guarantee that other meds would not cause the same thing. So, you may not be convinced that your child even needs meds for her OCD. If the OCD is severe enough that you decided to start medication then giving the meds a chance to work is important. Without meds my daughter would not have been able to do the hard work that is required with ERP. Dorelle
