Hi Staci,

Actually the OCD appeared first, he was 9. He began with just touching

cabinet doors, then at 10 it expanded to include drawers, doors, light switches.

This is when the tics started. We thought he had allergies, as he had a throat

clearing tic, a sniffing tic. But then he started blinking. We still didn't

realize what we were looking at.

At age 11 towards the end of the school year, his writing began to change,

and for the first time since starting school didn't make A/B honor roll.

It was this year, when he started 6th grade that things really got

bad....fast. The tics changed, head shake, blinking, huffing (blowing out), and

a

scream, among others. The OCD also took off, he could no longer walk through

door

ways, step onto rugs, without counting steps. Getting in and out of chair

had to feel right, or he would do it over and over.

As I mentioned everything had to feel right. be it getting things out of a

drawer or walking into a room. He was also starting to line things up, for the

first time, I saw him arrange the dirty dishes on the counter, before he

never would have touched them.

Actually I think the OCD may have been there even before 9, when he was

about 8, he wouldn't eat any food he thought you breathed on. He'd watch me

prepare his food, If I even looked in its direction and breathed he refused to

eat

it, he did this with both my husband and I. I think it was OCD, but don't

know for sure.

By age 11 (October) things had gotten so bad we had to get help. That is

when they gave him his diagnosis of TS and OCD. They started him on Clonidine

for tics...but it made it much, much worse, it also made the OCD worse. We

were finally able to get him in with a Dr in our area, he confirmed the TS,

OCD,

but added ADD, after testing him.

We were referred on, and finally got him on med. yesterday for OCD. The

lexapro. The Dr wants to treat the OCD first, as this seems to be the biggest

problem, then if we need to, the TS, and probably not the ADD, as they use

stimulants, and that makes TS tics worse.

I hope I was of some help, feel free to ask anything. :)

Hi ,

Thanks SO much for your input. May I ask when you first knew Micah

had TS? And did the TS & OCD appear at the same time? Thanks so

much again. I really appreciate it.

Staci
