Guest guest
Sil: My son has been on both Risperdal and is now currently on Abilify.? Both cause the bed wetting and a voracious appetite, which led to a huge weight gain.? he has gained 25 pounds in the last year, and went from being a small, skinny, athletic kid, to a short, chubby, lethargic kid.? But the flip side is that these meds seem to control the anxiety and aggression.? He is furious at me for not being able to " fix " his OCD and make it go away, and he's furious at the family because we don't suffer with this the way he does (hah hah - you moms out there know how bad we DO suffer).? So when his anxiety and OCD ramp up and I don't fix it or give into a compulsion, he can become very defiant and sometimes enraged.? He has physically hurt me and himself, but mostly damages (pulverizes) property.? The psychiatrist put him on the Abilify to help ramp up the effect of the ssri (celexa), thus reducing the anxiety tension and aggression.? I have to say it worked, but I hate the side effects.? We are going to see him again Thurs., so I don't know if he'll stay on it.? In the past, my son has taken DDVAP to counteract the bedwetting, but had been off it and dry since July, and I hate the idea of giving him more medicine because of the side effects of a medicine! BTW, in the orginal PANDAS study, something like 80% of the kids had urinary urgency issues.? Interesting... - in MI
Guest guest
My six year old had the urinary urgency with a PANDAS episode several times. Once we put him on long term Omnicef prohylaxis 300 MG a day the bed wetting and urination urge went away. He would run in and out of the bathroom every minute during the flair up. He also has the mood and anger issues. He overreacts to things and throws fits when we don't give in to his ideas. He is on 5 Mg of Abilify in the AM and 2.5 in the Pm. We just started the Pm dose because he has been so irritable and angry lately. Also he does the choriform movements on his toes and fingers. Has your child been diagnosed with PANDAS? It is a hard disorder to get treatment for. Dr's want to give anti psychotic meds. I am not sure what the best treatment is but am considering a steroid burst and then IVIG. We are going on year 5 of this nightmare and it just gets worse with time. The Omnicef worked great in the beginning but the last episode in Oct. has been bad. Now he is sick again so we are probably starting all over. The episodes are coming closer and harder. I would like to try Azith has anyone had experience with it long term? We live in OH and if anyone knows of a good Dr. to treat PANDAS please let me know. I have been through at least 12 for him and still don't know if we are going the right path. Yesterday saw psychiatrist and today psychologist. > > Sil: > > My son has been on both Risperdal and is now currently on Abilify.?
