Guest guest
Hi all, I have had and used daily my Ferno treadmill for 4 years now and still love it.. Althought, in Canada I must admit the service can be a hard to get. But if you are slightly mechanical minded, it is a very easy machine to maintain. Guest guest
Hey Lindy, Family Friends Vet Hospital in Grand Rapids Michigan has a West Coast. Be careful with them - we can't get any service done. West Coast no longer owns it. I think Maverick does now. The clinic has had their tank for over a year and still no maintenance check up done. Just my opinion - I'm not impressed. Maybe service in Canada will be better. Guest guest
There is no perfect treadmill out there in my opinion. I went with Ferno because the tank was large and they appear to be always improving their models and will customize many details for you as well. I also think they have been making them much longer than anyone else out there. Service is hit or miss from what I hear from others, though I have had nothing but good service from them so far. I've been more then happy with it and would buy another if I had to do it all over again. Guest guest
Hi Lindy, We have a West Coast and yes it is small. I would stay away from them. The West Coast UK division is still in operation but they have sold their US licensing rights to Milestone Equipment. I tried to inquire about service from Milestone and felt like I was getting the run around. They don't have anyone local (Northern CA) and want to charge an exessive amount to send someone out. Pretty lousy customer service if you ask me. Not sure about Canada. Guest guest
We have the HydroPhysio and I am pretty happy with the equipment. The all glass enclosement is practical for observing from any angle. The entry/exit doors are nice so the animal does not have to turn around and also lets them understand the in/out concept. The equipment is relatively easy to clean. We had an issue with the heating mechanism and it took a while to figure out which part was technically responsible. In my experience (Ferno yrs ago at a different clinic and now the HydroPhysio), customer service is hit or miss with most companies, depending on your geographic location. My one big improvement I would request would be to have a slightly steeper angle of the drain. There is usually standing water every time and that can increase build-up of debris/hair. I hope that helps. Guest guest
Hi, I've had one of the first US HydroPhysio units for 3 years now. We had some problems with the heater and that took a while to figure out,but didn't cause a stoppage of use problem because of some temporary patch fixes until we got it straight. Right now we're having trouble with the remote, but can still use the unit with the wall mounted control. I've heard that there have been some great modifications since our model. I, too like the 360 visibility. I think it makes it easier for the animals as well as great for gait visualization. Doors on either short end help with loading and unloading. It's really easy to clean and seems solid overall. Since we purchased, Shore-line has taken over US distribution, so I can't comment about recent service. I think overall it's a very good design, sufficient size even for large dogs with a therapist in the tank with them. Guest guest
FYI Meryl I ordered a new remote through the company that makes the remotes (TeleRadio LLC) instead of going through HydroPhysio and the remote I ordered is much sturdier and is working great and it isn’t hard to synchronize it with your unit. The company’s website is www.tele-radio.com their phone number is . The remote model I ordered is T60TX-06STL-US and the cost was $215 and well worth it! Guest guest
Thanks so much, Amy! I'll contact them ASAP. My technician and I are truly grateful. We missed having the capability of remote control while in the tank with the patient. Guest guest
As someone who is asked this question on seemingly a daily basis, I tell folks that it really depends on your situation. Here's my assessment: HP- 1) Clean design, very modern looking 2) Very easy to clean 3) More complex for newbies to figure out 4) Have also had an issue with a short in the thermostat 5) Easy in and out 6) Sometimes feel cramped when in with large dogs 7) Dogs tend not to stand on the front and cheat as much 8) Very compact size and flexibility of storage tank 9) Storage tank is insulated 10)Runs on lower amperage Ferno- 1) Jet system standard 2) Easier to maneuver around inside 3) Harder to clean **even though you can lift the belt, still a pain 4) A monkey can figure out how to run the controls in 2 seconds 5) Smoother belt to walk on 6) Cheaper 7) Under belt drain system could be better. It holds a little water so that when you first fill, the water can be abit cold I do tend to start new dogs in the HP because it has a more open feeling for them in my opinion. I don't have the jet system on the HP, so that's a big advantage of the ferno for me. I di like observing gaits in the HP better because of the unrestricted view. For folks with significant space issues, the HP is probably a better fit. Marti Drum UT
Guest guest
I also, have had good service from them, particularly, the salesman. He is great. I love my Ferno and will be purchasing a pool from Ferno next year. Guest guest
We currently have a Ferno unit at Texas A & M and I will share some of our personal experiences. We have had problems with service on our pool and with some other Ferno products we own. EMSAR now does Ferno's service and we had some work done and they actually broke a piece on our treadmill. It took about two weeks to get the work done that we requested so I do not recommend EMSAR for service. For infection control purposes, I recommend the Hydro Physio unit. Our Ferno unit has cultured MRSA, MRSI, klebsiella, pseudomonas, enterobacter and various strains of fungi in the past two years. Most of the cultures come off of the belt, but last week we had a dog defecate in the pool requiring us to lift the treadmill unit (since the treadmill does not drain completely under the belt) to remove the debris. Much to my surprise, a brown bio-film was found growing under the belt which cultured Pseudomonas, Klebsiella and enterobacter. We cleaned the pool using a bleach solution (which is not recommended for the Ferno units) and steamed the floor. The Hydro Physio units allow the treadmill to be lifted to air dry which helps inhibit the growth of pseudomonas. The HP pool is also stainless steel and tempered glass which helps to control infectious organisms by inhibiting growth and is easier to clean. If anyone is interested, contact me off list and I will be happy to include our cleaning protocols. J. Guest guest
What a wonderful comparison Marty - very helpful!! This has been a very interesting thread. We have a FERNO unit and have actually had patients toes, hair and even bathing suits get sucked into the back of the tread. When we initially mentioned this to FERNO they said that they had forgotten to put a "guard" in, came in and installed this guard and we are still having this problem - I am curious as to whether anyone else is having this issue?Sam Simpson RAHT, CCRTTo: VetRehab From: mdrum@...Date: Thu, 23 Oct 2008 23:10:14 +0000Subject: Re: UWTM comparison As someone who is asked this question on seemingly a daily basis, I tell folks that it really depends on your situation.
