To Help PASS the Combating Autism Act of 2006 during THIS SESSION of Congress

OUR ADVOCACY IS NEEDED!

WHY IS THIS SO IMPORTANT?

The Combating Autism Act would authorize $920 million in federal funds over

five years to combat autism through research, screening, intervention, and

education. The bill passed the Senate unanimously earlier this summer. We are

hoping to get a majority of the House to co-sponsor, so as to put maximum

pressure on House leadership.

There are currently 190 co-sponsors, needing JUST 28 more to get a majority of

218.

WHEN DO I NEED TO ACT?...NOW!

Bill HR-2421 is currently in Committee. It is important to get as many

co-sponsors as possible BEFORE the Congressional recess, which starts on

Friday, September 29th.

That is less than a week, so PLEASE call your Congressional Representative

TODAY.

Please encourage your friends, families, co-workers and neighbors to do the

same. The more phone calls that each Representative receives, the more likely

they are to co-sponsor the bill.

WHAT CAN I DO TO HELP?

Call the Washington office of your Representative to Congress. Ask to speak to

the Health Staffer. If you get voicemail, leave a message (including your

address) with the following information and ask them to call you back. If you

reach the staffer, tell him/her

that:

1. You are a constituent

2. The Combating Autism Act of 2006 passed the Senate by Unanimous Consent and

you are asking your Congressman to co-sponsor. While his/her support or their

vote is appreciated, it is not enough--tell them you need their cosponsorship.

3. Let them know that families and children are counting on the Combating

Autism Act of 2006 to pass this session, therefore you are asking for your

congressman's immediate support as a co-sponsor.

4. Let them know they can get more information about the Combating Autism
