!!!!! FREE EVENT !!!!!

A great speaker in OKC, every parent and teacher and aide and therapist, etc.

should go! I don't know how they got this, it usually costs a lot to attend

Carbone training. Maybe the state is catching on to the fact that better

training will save money in the end. I truly urge anyone who has a child with

autism, behavior or communication problems, or any hard to motivate child to

attend this with all your staff. Lowry

Please pass this on to any relevant person or group

The Oklahoma State Department of Education, Special Education Services

presents:

Featured Speaker: J. Carbone, Ed.D.

Who Should Attend?

This three-day training is for Special Educators, Early Intervention service

providers, school support personnel, paraprofessionals, and

Introduction to Verbal Behavior:

Teaching Communication Skills To Children with Autism and Other

Developmental Disabilities

This workshop focuses on the behavioral approach to teaching communication

skills to children with autism and other developmental disabilities. This

approach is based on B.F. Skinner's analysis of verbal behavior and the research

of , Sundberg, Partington, and others. Many video demonstrations are

provided to illustrate the methods to increase spontaneous language and to

develop conversational skills. Participants in this workshop learn:

.. To conduct a Behavioral Language Assessment.

.. To select the most appropriate form of communication for a child (vocal,

signing, pointing to or exchanging pictures, or activating an augmentative

device).

.. To select the communication responses and supporting skills that should be

taught first.

.. Techniques of errorless teaching, specific quick-transfer (prompting and

fading) procedures.

.. The use of both discrete trial training in the natural environment and

during an intensive teaching session.
