Guest guest
Hi , Just wanted to add my voice to the others to say I'm so sorry you are going through this with your son, and hope one of the doctors on the list has some good insight on this for you. I do know one person with severe OCD who cannot leave rooms. If they go to the bathroom in the night and make it to the bathroom they end up sleeping on the floor in the bathroom as they can't make it back to their bedroom. If they get stuck on their way to the bathroom they call out to a parent for help, or they would not make it there. In strict ERP terms one would not assist this, but the alternative would be a teenager wetting themselves... This person has not been helped by any med/treatment of any kind, 10yrs trying, so this is simply the way they deal with this. Just thought I'd share this. Leave the part that they haven't been helped, many do respond to medication and CBT, this is a rather exceptional case. I am also wondering if you can get medication through your family doctor? I am in Canada where we can wait 6-8months to see a psychiatrist, so most people start medication through the family doc/pediatrician often in consultation with the children's hospital. Alternately one can present themselves to the hospital emerg to get this attention and a prescription as well, without necessarily an admission. Not sure how it works for you in the US, but just thought I'd mention this. You would think there would be a way to fast track this...??? Hang in there, it's really hard when it's so bad and the OCD stuff just seems to keep growing and mushrooming into more things, and you just aren't sure what is going on anymore. We felt the same, wondered about mood disorder, personality disorder, schizoaffective, etc... Just to say this OCD can mascerade and look like almost anything I'm convinced. Hope you have some answers soon! Hugs! Barb
