DTT versus NET for Teaching Reading Skills

I will be running a research study comparing DTT and NET for teaching

early reading skills. The study will run for 6-8 weeks and basically,

I will assign equivalent words to DTT and NET conditions and evaluate

whether the child learns more words in a particular condition.

However, I am unsure as to whether I should match the DTT and NET

conditions on the amount of teaching time (length of each session) or

the number of learning opportunities during the session. I wanted to

match based on the number of learning opportunities (that way I would

not have to deal with the possibility that DTT is more effective

simply because it offers more learning opportunities than NET likely

would in the same amount of time). This is problematic due to the need

for transfer trials, as they will increase the number of times the

word is presented and would not be equivalent across conditions. Any

suggestions for a better way to design the study?

Look at spontanous use of the word in the half hour after the training session-

graph the generalization time with a dotted line behind your current lines.
