Guest guest
Good morning all! Here we are with our first Intuitive Eating Daily Thread. I just ordered the book and should get it by early next week. Can't wait to get into it. All of you who have been working it, start us all off with your experience and how this way of thinking has improved your attitude toward food. It is a beautiful day here in North Texas, and I am off to Six Flags with my 2 girls, and my 16 year old's boy friend! Lots of fun! Have fun everyone, and I'll check in later! Guest guest
Hi KJ and everyone! I hope your day was fun-filled! I am also interested in IE and will have a book in a couple of days. But I have to admit, it's scary for me. It will be a lot of hard work for me to undo the years of mental and emotional conditioning that got me to this point in the first place. I picked up the book at a book store yesterday and read the intro and forward and a couple of the pages in the first chapter and I swear it was talking about me and I found that I have all the characteristics they discuss. I don't want to get bigger, I want to get smaller and don't know if it is scary because I am afraid of how I will be interacting with food without restrictions -- I know, I know, that is one of the points but it still is a bit scary to me. I have a lot of work to do. Heidi ***IE Daily Thread 10-11-08*** Good morning all! Here we are with our first Intuitive Eating Daily Thread. Guest guest
I have been doing intuitive eating for a little over a month and I have found IOWL has helped me get through the scary part which is the legalizing food part. I did not go too crazy, just a little and each time I did, my body immediately started self correcting. one examples is Last weekend we went to a buffet for lunch. And I " chose " to eat lots of items I don't usually keep at home and enjoyed them throughly and was very full when we left. The cool part was my body immediatiely started self correcting, hence I was not hungry again until the next morning. I thought about a redo but there was nothing to redo...because my intent is to be able to control my binges...LOL...I don't mind binging I just want to be in control of them. When i did feel hungry again the next morning it was for cotage cheese and fruit. LOL Lunch was light too and it was not me punishing myself for overeating it was what my body wanted. If you want to check out the Intuitive eating book here is a link to a few chapters. http://books.google.com/books?id=V9673REaRNgC & printsec=frontcover > > Good morning all! Guest guest
Hi there, Yes this whole intuitive eating thing is very scary, but I feel if I can work through the scariness it will end up being very freeing and that is a worthy goal. Today I don't feel very well. Not really sick, but like I may be coming down with something. I am tired and a bit queasy. So what do start thinking about? I think maybe some ice cream will help or something else sweet. It will calm my stomach. Probably what would really help is resting, giving my stomach a rest by not eating and sipping water or herbal tea. Food usually comes up in my mind as the answer when often something different is a much better answer. So I am going to rest a bit now. Maybe later I will feel up to rereading the IE book. Glad this thread has been started. Thanks reeze > Hi KJ and everyone! > > I hope your day was fun-filled! I am also interested in IE and > will have a book in a couple of days. Guest guest
Had a really really really good Naturally slender/IE day. (With Intuitive Eating all days are at least good, because with IE I'm not allowed to beat up on myself because my " diet police " think I did wrong.) The naturally slender part of me was front and center only letting me eat when I was hungry and stopping when not too full and the IE part of me had tons of fun choosing what to eat when we got hungry. I most likely won't be eating again even if I get hungry because my body does not like going to sleep with food in her.......but it's nice to know I can eat again if I get hungry before bed and feel I need to. It's some what frightening to see how little my body really needs when I only eat when hungry and stop when medium full. Then on the other hand think how low my food bill will be. Guest guest
It is really interesting and, yes, a little scary to realize how little our bodies need to function. In the past I thought I was always hungry, but it wasn't true hunger. It was other emotions that I wanted to label as hunger. Now that I am practicing intuitive eating and dealing with my other emotions as necessary, not much food is needed. I decided to tally up my calories recently just on a whim. I haven't been counting calories for the past month. It turns out that I am taking in about 1700-2000 calories per day while practicing intuive eating. That's actually perfect for me at 110 lbs, 5'4 " , and working out 6 days per week for an hour per session (resistance and cardio). As a former binger and obsessive compulsive person about food, the fact that I can let go, eat whatever I want, but still maintain my weight effortlessly...wow. I can't even describe the feeling...it's freeing, liberating, amazing...but, again, no words can describe it accurately. > > Had a really really really good Naturally slender/IE day.
