Guest guest
got his license today!! He'll be 20 next month. Remember he does have Aspergers too. Sigh, I really don't know if the OCD is sometimes the problem or the Aspie/autistic part. Guess both on different occasions. We had a long wait at the license place and even there he was sitting with his hand over his mouth (trying to be casual) so he could " mouth " his OCD stuff. I did lean over eventually and tell him to move his hand, he said he was fine, I told him it looked odd after a while. OK, back to license!!! He passed!!! He feels more confident now (uh- oh!). AND told me when the examiner asked about mental illness, he said he had OCD. The examiner asked if it affected his driving and he said " no. " told me he wasn't sure if OCD was a mental illness. I told him " yes " . So we got home and I told him to go drive around some by himself. (He didn't leave neighborhood but may go to Walmart later, 5 min away) And I told him that he and (twin) will just HAVE to go ride around together this week when comes home. Being a bit sneaky here. I can get 's perspective on how does with driving. And then knows how 's OCD is too, so can note that for me. 's had his license since age 16.

Guest guest
Yeah!!! That's so great but concerning too I'm sure. We're not there yet, thanfully, although I sometimes wonder how my son really feels about this, he's 17 and all his friends drive now. He's in no hurry it seems, and neither am I really... I love your sneaky plan to have your other son go for a drive with him. We have to find stuff out somehow. The independence/confidence is a bit of a doubled edges sword isn't it? But I'm sure you must also be relieved that he's got his license, another landmark growth thing crossed, what's the word I'm looking for(?). Congrats the and to Mum for helping him get there! Guest guest
That is so great, Chris! It's such a milestone, and such an accomplishment for those like our kids. must feel so proud of himself, as well he should. If he's anything like Josh, he will be extra diligent about everything to do with driving. Josh follows the rules to the letter. It's a comfort, as a parent, to know that he becomes concerned about going even a couple miles over the speed limit. BJ > > got his license today!! He'll be 20 next month. Guest guest
>> got his license today!! A HUGE congratulations to both of you! Fantastic that he overcame the tremendous obstacles of OCD and, especially, Aspergers to do that! My nephew is an Aspie (with a little OCD which apparently not unusual) . . . he's only 12 so a ways out from driving but it's going to be a challenge for him! Congrats!
