Guest guest
I've actually talked with people this week who did not know that Daylight Savings Time starts Sunday, March 11 at 2:00 a.m. This is 3 weeks earlier than what we're accustomed to. It will end November 7, a week later than we're accustomed to. Virtually every computer with sufficient power to read this message has built-in functionality that determines when daylight savings time occurs, and whether to make an adjustment. You set that option initially when you set your time zone. Because the vast majority of computer users have operating systems, as well as application programs (such as Outlook, Excel, Thunderbird, etc) that pre-date the legislation changing DST, you will have programs that do not accurately reflect the change. For Microsoft Operating Systems (Windows XP and earlier), you can find all of the information that you need at this web site: http://support.microsoft.com/gp/cp_dst Windows Vista was built after the legislation was passed, and therefore is supposed to work ok. For Mac users, you can go to their website and search daylight savings time. There appear to be patches available, but it appears to be a different patch for every build of the OS, and it seems there are a lot of them. I don't use a Mac, and I'm not even sure I was at the right website as I had to do a lot of digging to even find a reference to the issue. If someone else knows where to go for Macs, they can respond. Oh, yes, and remember to change batteries in your smoke detectors!
