Guest guest
Joei and I slacked on the wii fit for a couple of weeks but picked it back up again last week. It is a blast. It's also a workout --- my legs are sore today from really pushing myself on it the last few days. lol I LOVE the Yoga. It is a great relaxation tool and a great way to learn it because the " board " tells you when you are off balance. The strength building exercises are great. I love the STEP class in the aerobics and the balance games are fun to! I have even jogged a bit, lol. The only draw back I see to it is that when you check in each day you have the option to go to the Body Tests or Training. The body tests measures your Body Mass Index and your weight. It also allows you to set a goal for weight loss and keeps track of it for you. I had to tell kidlet and a friend " no more body tests " this weekend because they kept going back all day to see if things had changed. The body gains/loses 2 lbs or so a day so it is possible to do a hard workout and see that you have actually gained (I tried it out yesterday, I had gained a little over a pound after my workout lol ). For kids that obsess on their weight (Joei's newest, sigh) or have the signs of an eating disorder would really need to be monitored on their time on this. ~~Kathy gkathy40@... http://www.myspace.com/clearingachannel yahoo messenger id gkathy40@... To: Date: Monday, December 8, 2008, 11:02 AM Our son also finds something to do, if his games are taken away. But, I have to say, they were a life saver when his OCD was bad. They kept his mind occupied so it could have a break from the nonstop anxiety producing thoughts, while we waited for the meds to start working, and to get into a therapist. I even played with him at times, although I wasn't much of a challenge for him. lol So, I agree with everyone else, that it really does seem to relax him. And it's such a social thing for boys. Whenever Josh has someone over, they spend most of the time playing games, or on the computers. And if they are good at the games, it seems to be a social benefit. He does do other things too, when the weather is nice. But, we have a lot of rain here, in Washington, so if it's not spring or summer, it's not nice outside, so hard to get outside for exercise. He's getting Wii Fit for Christmas, so I'm hoping to use the games to our advantage. ) Because you are right, the sedentary lifestyle, coupled with weight gain from meds, isn't ideal.
