Just wanted to share with everyone results following Vet-Stem on the following patient:

12yr old Golden Retriever - Grade IV DJD bilateral elbows (no ROM, fixed @ 75 degrees), severe crepitus and boney changes; Grade III DJD bilateral stifles (old cruciate ruptures, never repaired). This patient has faithfully stuck with rehab, q2 weeks, for the past 10 months. Rehab allowed for decreased pain and increased mobility until 2 months ago when her condition appeared to worsen and not respond as well. Chinese herbs (for DJD), Rimadyl and Tramadol were her daily meds. Adequan was tried, but resulted in no improvement in her condition. She underwent HA (Legend) injections (IA, elbows), series of 5, 6 months ago which led to some pain relief, but didn't last more than 3 months. We have discussed Vet-Stem with the owner over the past month, talking about the pros/cons. The owner opted to try the procedure last week. Within 5 days post-injections (elbows & stifles), she is a changed dog! She has started to run and play again, as well as go for daily walks without pain. The ROM at her elbows has obviously not improved, but the pain on manipulation and weight bearing has decreased substantially. Vet-Stem has given her a new lease on life. Since research and long term results are limited on this procedure, I thought it would be of interest to those who may be considering it as an option.
