Guest guest
Hi Vicki. Well, the holidays sure do add stress. It should be a time of celebration, but that seems to get lost is the chaos of it all. I'm sorry things are going badly for you. Vent away. We all do at times. Here is the place to do it. . Where people understand. (((you))) Since we've homeschooled for years, we've never run into that. And our son is a geek too, but we played to his strengths. lol We figured Bill Gates was a geek and look where it got him. <grin> It's easier to do that when you don't have peer pressure from school though. If you can, Vicki, try to steal a few minutes for yourself to try to de-stress. I know it is hard. But, sometimes you just have to, to save your sanity. Hang in there. The one thing you can usually count on, when living with OCD, is that things will change. Whether it gets worse or better is the question though. :o/ BJ > > I think every year around the holiday's I have just had enough! I am > stressed, anxious, overwhelmed and fed up! Guest guest
My dd does have an IEP at school, but she has OCD and bipolar. She is a gifted student, and at the same time is in a program at her school for kids with neurobiological illnesses. Do you have any questions about IEPs? My dd originally had a 504 and we put a lot in that plan, but eventually she needed the IEP to be in the program she is in. Good luck, Stormy Subject: is it the time of year To: Date: Monday, November 24, 2008, 11:09 PM I think every year around the holiday's I have just had enough! Guest guest
Hi Vicki, Hugs to you!!! Vent away, many here share your frustration and fatigue with all this stuff. It is exhausting parenting these kids, advocating at school for their needs, trying to orchestrate their social life/lack there of... If your son has been home with you for a month I'm not surprised you are feeling burnt out! So sorry your son is being bullied too, it is heartbreaking as a Mum to not feel you have answers for all this. An IEP seems to be critical if you are going to have your child's needs met. It is a legal document which requires steps be followed, and is your leveredge when trying to ensure that certain things are done. Having said that, finding those individuals within your son's school who you can connect with and get on your side, and who will advocate for you on the inside. Not sure your relationship with your son's teacher? It sounds like you may need to sit down with the principle and make a plan so all involved can assist your son. Some schools are better than others on this front... Not sure what options are available, or what you might/can consider. Some go the homeschooling route, others opt for a smaller private school. There is some programming with alternate schools, but often the needs are pretty specific and don't suit all. Hang in there!
