Hi Annie,

It is individual of course, but generally within a few weeks many see

some results, but until they reach the optimum dose, which is usually

quite high, and then three months is the general rule at the highest

dose to see if the drug will be effective. They encourage that you

wait out the three month period, and to go to the highest dose,

because many will not see result until then. Our doctors felt you

should see some results within weeks though, and would increase

rapidly if they felt it was warranted.

Personally we found staying low and going slow worked best for us, as

ours was very drug sensitive. We did see postive results almost

immediately with celexa and at low dose, but had big problems at

higher doses. If you are not seeing negative effects they might

consider titrating up more quickly. When they are hospitalized they

will do it over three day periods often, so it certainly can be done.

It's hard to wait and wonder and not see results. It may well be a

matter of time. My understanding is that prozak is one of the more

activating ssri's, so personally I would go slowly to be on the safe

side.

Warmly,

Barb

With adults, we are told that it can take up to like 12 weeks to see the

effects.

How long to see SSRI results?

I know it varies but can anyone share with me how long it took to see some

results when starting a SSRI? My 7 year old started on 10mg Prozac last

week. We were told to increase to 15 mg after 10 days. It is day 11 and

he's pretty much the same. Does it just take longer?

Thanks!

Annie
