Guest guest
Hi Beth, Thank you. When my husband told me he called the bosses boss...wow was I nervous. I was afraid it would get worse but it didn't. They make IEP/504 rules so confusing...they need to simplify it. too many exceptions to the exception. Micah also needs speech, but will not attend, so they kicked him out of his IEP. Said if he will not except services outside the classroom than he is moved to a 504, even if he qualifies for the IEP. I also think he will qualify for OT, they did a Psychomotor ability test: right hand dominant was less than 1%. but tapping task was high average to superior range 91%. Purdue Pegboard task was 1%. I don't know if that means anything to you...it's all gibberish to me...but I suspect he needs OT...as his writing isn't legible, not even to himself. Problem is he wont go to any special classes....he'll have to get OT outside of school. And as for speech...he said his lisp doesn't bother him. So we'll go with accommodations. I like the IEP better, because someone manages it, but he's working so hard to fit in, he just isn't willing to go to special ed anymore. He went the entire time in K-4, and was in early childhood development program. Thanks so much! In a message dated 12/4/2008 12:02:59 P.M. I am so glad that you have seen a complete 180 with your principal - as it should be! BTW - if Micah has an OHI diagnosis - this is a category in special education so he could have a true IEP instead of a 504. Just a thought.....BTW - if Micah has an OHI diagnosis - this is a category in speci I've learned that nobody can fight for a child like their parents and nobody can get things done in public schools like parents can......WAY TO GO!
