The purpose of this workshop is to provide parents, caregivers, and professionals of children with special needs with a rudimentary understanding of the environmental variables that control and maintain problem behaviors. Participants will then learn how to manipulate these variables in order to effect consistent, long-term reduction of problem behaviors. Topics to be covered include: Importance of reducing problem behaviors; Analyzing problem behaviors according to function rather than form; Developing a behavior reduction plan that includes antecedent manipulations as well as consequences, with emphasis on antecedents; Data collection.
