Guest guest
Hi Folks, This is . Many of you on these lists know me as the author of the VB book " Educate Toward Recovery: Turning the Tables on Autism " (www.lulu.com/knospe-aba). I am emailing this crosspost because, I just returned from a London workshop and I feel compelled to share this information about the wonderful goings on in the Verbal Behavior approach to ABA. I sent 5 of my ABA/VB consultants and trainees to see the EO inc. Workshop " Teaching Verbal Behavior " in London. I even sat in on some of the workshop myself. I cannot tell you how impressed I was with the information presented. The presenters Holly Kibbe BCBA and Donnelly BCABA (Cherish Twigg BCBA is soon to be a mom) were clear and caring. I participated in this workshop about 5 years ago and enjoyed it then, but there is so much to be learned in the details of this 4 day workshop opportunity that I am so glad that I decided to see it again. The new information and procedures they are sharing dealing with Stimulus Stimulus Pairing are exciting and I look forward to seeing how they work with our children who are learning sign really well but are slower to make the transfer to spoken language. I also love the work they are doing with intermediate and advanced learners building conversational language. Some of it was just truly impressive I can just say that if any ABA providers out there considering learning more about VB. I strongly recommend that you start with a Carbone Clinic Introductory Worskhop (www.carboneclinic.com) that you learn how to use the ABLLS assessement from Behavior Analysts inc. (www.behavioranalysts.com) and that you participate in the Teaching Verbal Behavior workshop offered by EO inc. (www.establishingoperationsinc.com). If you cannot get to a worskhop by EO inc. I would recommend that you consider investing in their " Teaching Verbal Behavior " DVD set. This is also the path I would recommend for any parent of children with autism who want to be proactive in assuring their child has the best opportunity at an appropriate and effective education leading even the earliest learners toward spoken language and typical converstational skills if not all the way toward recovery. Also, in the VB news, there is a new book that was written by Lynch Barbera, RN, MSN, BCBA called " The Verbal Behavior Approach: How to Teach Children with Autism and Related Disorders " This book is available now for pre-order at www.amazon. com (http://www.amazon. com) or through the publisher at www.jkp.com (http://www.jkp. com) To get started, free information on ABA/VB is also available by reading the website of Burk, BCBA (www.christinaburkaba.com) t Burk (www.autismteachingtools.com) and by going to www.mariposaschool.org and downloading the free: " Training Manual compiled for Verbal Behavior Training Seminars " by Vail and Freeman and edited by s for Verbal Behavior Training Seminars July - October, 2002 I truly hope that if you are not currently actively involved in a in-home ABA based therapy program with your child or if you are using ABA without the perspective of VB (with your child or as a professional) that you consider these resources. The quality of the education that children with autism can receive has grown tremendously in just the past decade or so and the people behind these resources above are the push behind getting this information to the families who need it most. Good luck and good teaching to all of you, ________________________ Schramm, MA, BCBA www.lulu.com/knospe-aba www.knospe-aba.com ________________________ __________________________________________________
