EDEN II PROGRAMS EARLY CHILDHOOD AUTISM WORKSHOPS

Utilizing scientifically validated treatment procedures, Eden II Programs has

been a leader in the effective intervention and education of individuals with

autism over the past 30 years. In an effort to disseminate sound information

about autism spectrum disorders and provide training and support, Eden II

Programs and The Genesis School will offer the following workshops.

These workshops are designed to assist in the development of effective

treatment programs for young children (early intervention through preschool)

affected by autism spectrum disorders. Each evening seminar runs from 6:00

p.m.-9:00

January Workshops

1. Beyond discrete trial instruction: Ei Through the Preschool years

This workshop will focus on a variety of research-based teaching strategies

that extend beyond discrete trial teaching, and have been shown to be

successful for children with autism. Specific teaching methods such as

incidental

teaching, audio scripts, and video modeling will be discussed. Strategies will

be

provided as to how these teaching methods can help improve your instructional

session with young learners.

2. Teaching Social Skills to Young Children with Autism

One of the hallmark deficits in children with autism spectrum disorder is the

lack of social skills. Parents and professionals face many obstacles when it

comes to designing and implementing skill acquisition programs in this area.

This presentation will highlight the importance of social skills, as well as

guide parents and professionals on how to select and implement age appropriate

social skills. Video taped examples will illustrate teaching procedures that

are designed to facilitate skill acquisition.

3. Managing Challenging Behavior from

Early Intervention though the Preschool Years

The focus of this workshop is to highlight important assessment

considerations when addressing the challenging behaviors of young children with

autism and

related disorders. Attendees are provided with a myriad of assessment tools

and data collection to guide them in understanding the functions of challenging

behaviors, along with guidelines regarding how to select tools based upon a

particular case. These tools and strategies are discussed with respect to the

subsequent development of comprehensive, individually-tailored, behavioral

interventions.

4. Developing a comprehensive Curriculum for

Children with Autism from birth to 5

It is often challenging to develop curriculum for young children with autism

due to their diverse needs. There are critical foundation skills that are

essential in the development of a comprehensive curriculum and must be

addressed

early on in the education process. This presentation will cover specific

curriculum areas to be addressed, as well as a sequential and individualized

approach to curriculum development for young learners with autism spectrum

disorders. Sample curriculum will be provided and discussed.

Southern State Parkway – Eastbound

Take to exit 28A (Seaford Oyster Bay – 135 North) to

Old Country Road (Exit 10)

Make a right onto Old Country Rd – go 4 traffic lights to Manetto Hill Road

Make a left onto Manetto Hill Road

Make 1st right onto Washington Ave.

After 1st light, St. Pius School X will be on the right
