and group,

My son will type on any kind of keyboard. He started with a word and symbol

system custom programmed on a DynaVox when he was 5YO in 1996. At age seven he

got a DynaMyte and the programming was transferred. After using it for a few

months,he switched to using the onscreen keyboards exclusively. He is now using

an MT4 from DynaVox. He also types on a mini-keyboard--these are marketed as

" organizers " in office supply and discount stores. Since we do not use the

memory or other functions,we buy closeouts at a top price of $5 and often just

two or three dollars.

Please could you tell me what your son uses to type with? With voice output or

without? How did you teach him to type/spell? I am trying to get my son typing,

but SLT would like him on a symbol based system. I think that is limiting him a

lot, especially as the communication book he was given only contains very, very

basic vocabulary. Any advice would be very helpful. Thanks
