Guest guest
I have a case I started seeing a couple weeks ago, and wonder everyones thoughts. I have a 20 month old English Mastiff, 170 lbs, male neutered (allow be to breifly add, owned by a 5'2 " 100 lb woman). Dog has never really sat very well, even as a pup. Somewhere around 9 months of age, they started to notice the dog hunching his back when he walked. They did not think it was very abnormal, until the frequency increased became most of the time. They did xrays, and repeated xrays, seen neuro and ortho-- no diagnosis. whatever has been tried, including steroids, helps for a little while (couple weeks) where it's better, but never gone. I saw the dog and he was screaming painful on both iliopsoas. But I am not sure if that's the chicken or the egg. Are they in spasm from injury? Or are they painful from chronic spasm from something else? I had start stretches, but the weight difference prevents her from doign it well. I also started acupuncture and laser, which had been helping quite a bit, but now again, seeing it return. I personally think the spasms are much worse when the dog is nervous. Thoughts much appreciated. Jo Byron, DVM Cleveland OH
