Guest guest
{{{{{Joya}}}}}} I'm sooo sorry to hear about Sheba. It's strange, on the way home from work today, I started to cry thinking about Konrad, my sweet shephard/huskie mix who I had to euthanize over 3 years ago. I feel for you! Big hugs, F who can't understand why the furry babies have such short lifespans while yucko snakes live into their 50s. Guest guest
My Mom gets 30mg of Remeron and 100mg of Trazodone. At bedtime. During the day she is receiving 200mg of Neurontin 3xs daily. She gets the Remeron and Trazadone to help her sleep. I don't know if there is any affect from the Neurontin. She has been sleeping through the night for the last 6 weeks. Ativan just increased my Mom's agitation. It was a disaster. She can't take any Neuroleptics. Mariea
Guest guest
Thanks for the info Mariea -- we are admitting her tomorrow so will discuss with the doc what he thinks may help. Will take these drug names with me! I definitely want her off of Ativan - I have never seen her like this before. > My Mom gets 30mg of Remeron and 100mg of Trazodone. At bedtime. Guest guest
, Sorry for what your mom is going through. Risperdol helps with the hallucinations one in the morning now and one at night. She also takes Trazadone at bedtime it calms her down and helps with sleep. If that doesn't do the trick then a couple of hours later she takes Resperal for sleep. I hope you and her doctor find a solution. Is she seeing a Neurologist? That is who prescribed mom's medication, her regular doctor is well, lets just say A JERK. good luck, shirley > >Reply-To: LBDcaregivers >To: LBDcaregivers >Subject: checking in >Date: Thu, 10 Oct 2002 18:25:54 -0000 > >HI group, > >I have been reading the posts and keeping up for the last couple >of days - thinking of you all and praying for you in your difficult >situations, I am amazed at all that some of you are facing - just >not a lot of time to write back between packing up the house and >checking in on Mom - I extended my time up here until next >Monday. > >Mom is still hallucinating non-stop, though the doctors hoped >that would diminish in the new assisted living situation. Guest guest
When my dad was admitted to hospitals, during admission, when asked if he had any allergies, I told them " sensitive to neuroleptics " . After a few visits, he ended up wearing a hospital bracelet that read " Sensitive to Neuroleptics " so the word would be out to all staff seeing my dad. There are many neuroleptics in this category. Also, there is the pharmaceutical name and the generic name, which can be very confusing. For instance, Lorazepam is Ativan. Both are the same drug, just referenced differently. One reason my dad was on Ativan for almost a year is it was listed as Lorazepam, and I had known of Ativan. Confused? I sure was. Also keep in mind Haldol is another neuroleptic. Some neuroleptics are supposedly not as serious...as in the anti-depressants. It seems to be the anti-psychotics that may be more harmful. Hope this helps and didn't confuse you more. If you want me to look up any drug, I have a drug handbook that I would be more than happy to help with. Keeping you close in prayers! Guest guest
Thanks Sandie, Just got home after l-o-n-g day -- staff psychiatrist has agreed to wean her off of the Ativan, and they plan to manipulate the other meds to see if she can get some relief. We need to keep her on some of these to control symptoms -- she is back on Geodon which we used before with good results (except potentially aggravating the tremor). Admit went well today - she even recognized one of the nurses from a former stay. But busy day with all the getting checked-in stuff - and it looks as if it will be another 2 weeks in there to get things squared away. Thanks for praying - amazed out how perfectly things are working out with small details, even getting to bypass the ER for getting admitted was very, very helpful. Now on to catch up with all these other posts -- this is a busy list! > > When my dad was admitted to hospitals, during admission, when asked if > he had any allergies, I told them " sensitive to neuroleptics " . Guest guest
Sounds like good news that your mom will be weaned off the Ativan. Definately believe in the power of prayer. Sounds like you have testimonies yourself as well. Stay strong, and keep the faith. Sandie
