Guest guest
Dear members: any feedback regarding this issue is much appreciated. We are seeing that some of the motor imitations child is learning in therapy are sometimes becoming stims. The two noticeable ones are the plane movement with his hands up in the air and making the triangle with his fingers for " Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star. " Redirection seems to be limited in effect and he comes back to these stims quite quickly after the redirection. Is such experience usual/common? My question is not so specific to the examples I provided but we also want to know if this type of issue is a common " stage " , so to speak, for the therapy cycle. I know we are only early into child's therapy and would like to hear if there is an experienced based reference for such. I suggested the following: Redirect hands down Verbally praise when engaged functionally/using hands Should Behavior occur during NET, Incidental Teaching etc " give/prompt child to request " let's sing twinkle, twinkle " ... Start trucking behavior using ABC chart to determine patterns/potential cause Much regard, Inina
