(1) Autism 101: Learning Tools. This two-day workshop will take you through the basics, including definitions, characteristics, and history; provide you with hands-on practice for implementing " real-world " strategies in your home or class; offer demonstrations through video; and leave you with handouts to support your new tools. Specific tools include targeting the areas of communication, self-help, social skills, academics, and aberrant behaviors. (2) A-Zs of Social Skills Development. This one-day training (9am-4pm) will address the A-Zs of social skills development, including reading and utilizing nonverbal communication, unraveling the hidden curriculum, tackling the " unsocial " behaviors often termed aberrant, and incorporating the principles of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) and (RDI). We will also address " running " social skills groups, including the assessment of participants, the design, and the overall implementation. Whether for your child, as a parent, or the students you work with, as a professional, social skills are the foundation for overall development.
