I wouldn't give it to him unless he makes a request. Remind him to " use words. "

And then prompt him w/ something like " I want... " and then let him fill in the

blank. This should work. If he won't tell you what it is, then don't give it

to him.

Here's and example:

is pointing at a toy car

Mom says " use your words, I want... "

says " car "

Mom says, " good job, " and gives him the car.

It might take more prompting depending on how advanced he his, but as long as he

needs to request before he gets what he wants, the inappropriate behavior should

start to fade out.
