Guest guest
Hi Fiends and Colleagues! HAPPY SUPERBOWL SUNDAY FROM NEW YORK : ) Just wondered if anyone has information regarding Behavioral Consultation in Idaho? Specifically, Marsing Idaho. I have a friend from there, and her daughter's son has been recently diagnosed with Autism. He now is having vocal tics. So first, service information in that area is being solicited, and second, does anyone have some leads on treating vocal tics? I would appreciate any info - tried interventions/anecdotal data/JABA or BMOD articles, etc. Thanks so much in advance! Guest guest
Hi. TMG with folinic acid, available at Kirkman labs, worked somewhat well for our child. The anti-depressant Apo-Citalopram also worked rather well, and was cheaper for us to obtain and helped in other areas as well, somewhat. A bio-medical intervention, especially including researching and monitoring a diet to that end, seemed to yield significant results for us, of the involuntary and neurological, " sensory " issue, that we believe tics is of, and of our individual situation, exacerbated by offending elements to the diet in particular, especially with regard to gluten and casein, (etc.) that, towards our establishing a GFCF (Gluten-free Casein-free) diet to help alleviate the matter, somewhat, again. Challenging ticks behaviorally might negatively pair you with a losing proposition? .. . Better to work through it where you have to, and be positively paired, thereof? ... " Focusing " (the student) on it was counterproductive in our case. Nothing did the job entirely well biomedically or otherwise, with our son and his verbal tics, though it is tolerably under control now, with our son making other more appropriate sounds to displace them, the verbal tics, it seems, " has " transpired. Moreover, I've heard that is pretty typical with some if not many of our unique children and adults with verbal tics, where the outcome is positive if so positive at all? Others report better results, I've heard, of their unique situations. Perhaps some will come forward in that respect. We didn't find behavioral interventions to be very effective in that respect to " our " rather severely challenged situation, and we tried most everything, thereof, arriving somewhat late on the scene. (?) If the child was more intelligent, perhaps, he might be better amenable (conscripted?) towards the solution, I'd surmise. A side note: We noticed ticking more when our son was relaxed or content, (after being rewarded!) in contrast with tense and " tantrumming " behavior when stressed. " Middle " groud was best for meaningful results in that respect of our situation.
