Guest guest
Hi Libby, There is a bit of debate about the correct amount of kilocalories we should consume each day ... however, when I was banded about 5 years ago, it was suggested about 700 or 800 calories. Some dieticians don't agree with this and consider it is not enough. Many of us back then did this and were fine with it. Our blood results didn't show malnutrition providing we were eating balance and taking our vitamins. The whole band issue has changed some what and I think some are suggesting more than this now that many of us use dieticians in our practices. The dietician in Canberra is quite realistic and doesn't get on her high horse about this issue so long as people are feeling well, their blood levels are OK and they are losing. Other dieticians would be quite OTT and say this just isn't enough brain food. The less you eat, the better your weight loss providing you don't go to the extreme and starve yourself. Fat wise ... no less than 20g per day as you do need fat (healthy fat) for healthy hair, skin and nails. I would say 20 - 30 g. Beverlee The LOST Ninja blog: Exclusive clues, clips and gossip. Guest guest
Hi , The dietician didn't really give me any indication. I was thinking the other night about what I have been eating. I have been eating too many foods which are full of fat i think. For example, I have mainly been eating chicken rissotto (which is apparently high in fat) and atlantic salmon pasta but in a creamy sauce. Even though the portion sizes are much smaller than what I previously ate before the band, I think I need to come up with healthier alternatives. Breakfast is ok as I am eating wheetbix but the other meals leave me stumped. I haven't lost anything more in the past week and I think it is because of the food. What do you think. Libby :-) Hmm I don't know Libby Did the dietician ever give you an indication? Nx
Guest guest
Hi Libby Hmm that is possible that the risotto is too high in carbs and combined with the creaminess of it is not good. The salmon pasta is okay without the cream sauce. So perhaps as an alternative you could do tin of tuna (I love Sirena in olive oil) with a bit of mayo (I love Norganic Soya mayo) on rice crackers. Pasta salads bought in shops tend to be covered in cream sauce or salad dressing if they are cold and are pretty calorie laden. A tin of baked beans with some soy and linseed bread is good and filling. I have had that and found it okay to eat. Most days I will have some chunky soup for lunch. I don't know what your routine is like at work. I tend to not eat until 11, have a small snack like some crackers or a cup of soup. Then I have something for lunch like today I will have some chunky soup, then have something else at about 4 and then have something when I get home tonight. I have to go with the 5 or so small meals option, 3 meals a day is not feasible for me. I get hungry in between and then resort to biscuits. If you are not able to have something, try having a cup of tea or an up and go. Sometimes it is best to take the edge off hunger before you go and eat – and then choose the wrong things. Guest guest
Heya Libby..... The joys of the debate about fats or kilojoules.... The way I see it if you can't count both then count the kilojoules because things that are high in fat have a high kilojoule reading anyway. If you can maintain your rate at the lovely 700-900 calories (which are the same as kilojoules) like bev said then you will find that the fat content is reasonably low anyway..... The more fat you add the more the kilojoule/calorie content increases..... So the short answer to that long sentance above is, look at the calories of food and go from there! Guest guest
Libby I personally count the fat grams when I am buying something. The lower the fat is what I buy and also the lower sugar content. Guest guest
i think its more like 40 Libby - but if you are eating a healthy well balanced diet you probably dont need to be counting fat and calories. I would be grateful if somebody could tell me whether it is more important to count fat grams or calories. What is the maximum that I should be eating each day? Am I right in thinking no more than 20 grams of fat per day? Thanks Libby
