Hello!

I have been lurking here for a few days and would like to introduce myself.

My name's Cássia, I live in Brazil and work as a freelance translator. I've

been reading the emails and learning a lot.

I hope I can be of some help, but I'm afraid I will ask questions more than

answer them!

Love and sunshine always,

Cássia Nasser :-) xoxo galore!

Hi, Cassia.

I'm new on here, too - been here about two weeks.

I'm very impressed by the standard of contributions here, and extremely

impressed by the qualifications and experience of some of the people I've

been chatting to by private email.

I'm a doctor with about three years' experience as a translator, so I'm

very inexperienced in comparison with some of the people contributing. But

I have good practical experience as a doctor, and I think I'm pretty good

at finding information on the word-wild web, which is a big advantage to a

translator.

I'm curious to know how many subscribers there are on this list, and I

wonder whether the moderator can give us some statistics. From the level of

activity, I would guess there are fewer than 100.

I notice that there are people from all over the world on here, and it

would be interesting to get some idea where people are from. I moderate

another listserver, which deals with stories and storytelling

(storytellersegroups), and I recently did a quick survey, which showed

that the subscribers had internet service providers in places including

Ireland, UK, Germany, Denmark, Sweden, Israel, South Africa, Australia,

Canada, US and French Guiana. But there must be people from other

countries, too, where the ISPs have .com and .net domain names.

Anyway, I hope you enjoy being on here as much as I am enjoying it, and I

look forward to getting to know you and more of the other subscribers.

Best regards xx

Coilín.

I'm not the moderator, but the list has 349 members to date, some of

whom are obviously more active than others. You can view the list of

members at /members/medical_translation.

Hi Coilín,

Thanks for your nice email. I'm sure I'm going to enjoy this list very

much. It was very interesting to hear about you and let's hope we can all

get to know one another better.

Unlike you, I am not a doctor - actually I have a degree in Civil

Engineering - but I have been a freelance translator for many years now.

Perhaps I am wrong, but I believe translation is one of those areas in which

nobody is truly experienced. I mean, we are always learning and perhaps the

big mistake is to think we know/have seen it all! Nothing could be further

from the truth :-) Each translation job poses a new, refreshing challenge to

even the most experienced translator.

I found the story-telling list you mentioned very interesting and I intend

to subscribe as soon as I have some time.

I apologise if my message is too long and too *offtopic* for the list.

Thanks again!

Love and sunshine always,

Cássia Nasser :-) xoxo galore!

Thank you, .

I wasn't aware that ordinary members of egroups could gain access to lists

of members like this. (with or without complete email addresses)

I'm amazed to see how many of us there are.

I also notice that some person or persons unknown have gone to great

trouble to provide a very impressive list of useful links on the Links page:

/links/medical_translation

Thanks to the considerate person/s who did this for us.

Love and sunshine always ;)
