Guest guest
Hi all. I just heard from my dr's nurse regarding my lab tests last week. My white blood count had dropped to an uncomfortable level and I have been asked to go in for more tests today. The last test shows that it was not serious at that point but they want to keep an eye on it in case they need to prescribe more medications to bring it back up. I know what that means. Wish me luck that I don't have to reduce tx and go on procrit. Hugs to all. VickieG Be a better friend, newshound, and know-it-all with Yahoo! Mobile. Try it now. Guest guest
Hi, Moo, I think that procrit is the next step if the count goes down anymore. She mentioned more medication if necessary. Today is a good day for me. I hope the count has gone back up some. Hugs. Guest guest
Ty, I didn't want my tx reduced. I hope my dr. does it that way, if he puts me on Procrit. I'm thinking positively that my counts have gone up some. Guest guest
Typically Procrit is prescribed for low red blood cell count, not white. The common medications for low white blood cell count are Neupogen or Neulasta. Unfortuantely, they are injectibles. The good news, Vickie is that you are nearing tx and hopefully won't need it even the whole time you have remaining. Best wishes and prayers, gail wrote: Usually they don't reduce tx,but put you on Procrit at one shot a wk until things are back to normal. Guest guest
I'm on Neupogen shots for low white blood count (twice a week) and the procrit for red blood cells. I wouldn't wish Neupogen shots on anyone, I think it's sides compete with interfurons. Good luck avoiding if possible, but trust the doc's takining care of your if he prescribes. Aren't you really close to done? Kim T.

Guest guest
Hi Vickie-- the Neupogen injectable that they would put you on would only be for a short time just to bring your white count back up.. Sometimes that could mean only 1 or 2 shots given once a week... That way they wouldn't have to reduce any of the treatment. As indicated below they only prescribe Procrit shots if you red blood cell count would drop and that too is a injectable that usually raises your count in 1-2 shots given once a week. It is a great way to help with staying on treatment without having to reduce or stop the ribaviran during those times when your counts drop too low. Hope this info helps. Guest guest
Ty, Kim. Yes I will be done with tx in 2 1/2 months now. I'm excited and apprehensive. LOL! Ty for the information. I should hear something by tomorrow or Friday about my white count. I am being positive that the count has gone up.
