Question about 17 year old girl

I received this email.

My friend's daughter has

had her third bout with ovarian cysts. She is a

17 yr old high school

senior. She started her period later than most (maybe 14) and is a very active

athlete. Considering these two factors she has not developed a regular cycle.

Gynecologist wants her on the pill. Mom is afraid of future fertility issues

and interested in alternatives to this treatment. Can you offer any suggestions?
