Guest guest
Hi Jim & Jennette, Nice to meet you. Yes, it sounds like you have indeed been going thru alot of medical whirlwinds. I can't believe they still want your wife to take the statin when her cholesterol is low already...maybe they are thinking short term thing since the stent? Anyway, yes, do your homework..I hate that it is our job but then, ultimately we are our own responsibility I guess. I am off for a few days so will be nomail. Good luck to all you folks. Be strong. Jill newbie Hi, just joined,I had a 7x in Dec. of 05 my wife had a stent put in Feb.06. So its been a medical whirlwind lately. We both recovered with no major problems. An both on lipitor underprotest to the Drs. lol. She has real good cholestrol but they insisted she be on it> both us take q 10 an are on various other meds. We will be reading most the old post an files as we go along. We are in north carolina, I'm 59 shes 58.an want off this med. We hear to much bad about it. Guest guest
ask your doctor what the CORECT level the cholesterol count is supposed to be...then ask him what HIS count is... then ask him which statin he is taking. Chances are he is NOT taking a statin. It is amazing how many of these drs. are well paid and legalized pill pushers for a drug that is almost as dangerous as many of the illegal drugs. Guest guest
welcome to the group Jim and Jannette just curious what cholesterol level did the dr. want you to get down to through the use of a statin? My brews do fine here in the winter and the house is between 60-67F, sometimes down to 50F at night. It takes longer to brew when it is cooler, but the brews are smoother and taste better. Warmer brewing favors the yeasts which isn't needed (you want to favor the bacteria). So electrical devices aren't generally needed or desirable, and you're not limited to on top the water heater. Mine are fine on the kitchen counter. --V >

Kombucha greetings from sunny England :-) Yes, it is so exciting starting to brew Kombucha! :-) I have been brewing it for a long time but I'm still learning and I'm still enjoying it. Be sure you don't disturb your brewing vessel - no wobbling ;-) as this would prevent a new culture growing on the top. You would still end up with a healthy KT for drinking, but the bacteria in the brew need calm, in order to build the scoby top mat cellular 'house' on top of the brew. It's nice to have another culture besides your original 'mother'. Did you know that we call this solid culture SCOBY, which describes what Kombucha is, a S ymbiotic C ulture (C olony) Of B acteria & Y easts. You can brew with both or more cultures together in the jar in future. This may help your KT to taste even more yummy. This is a list which welcomes you and your family warmly and is looking forward to giving you support through answering question you may have in future. Guest guest
Hi Nikki~ I have been in the exact same position and it can be very overwhelming at times, especially in the beginning. I now help run a home trainers support group in the Wash DC area. We highly recommend that our local home trainers take workshops so they have a good idea of what they are trying to accomplish. Pete Van Deusen teaches workshops all over the world to clinicians and home trainers alike, and you can look at the workshops schedule at http://www.brain-trainer.com/cgi-bin/shop.pl?schedule=1 (but not sure if there are any scheduled at the moment). Until then I would be happy to help you make sense of some of the things that are confusing as you learn. Please feel free to contact us/me. Where are you located? ~ 703 220-5818 karenduncan@... Guest guest
First I think you should ask God for strength to help you change. Build a support system especially when you start to feel unmotivated. I also feel listenin gto podcasts a few times help to motivate me, look at your worksheets often maybe everyday or a few times a day, to remind you why you want to change. You may want to seek professional help as well liike a counselor. Also spend time with your children and set a posititve example for them to follow. > > I am Toni and I am just starting IOWL. Guest guest
Hi Deedee, I can relate to your struggles... I'm 32 and have battled with my weight most of my life. I've lost over 70 pounds and have maintained most of that weight loss for the past 5 years through healthier eating and exercise. Two years ago I was really focused and was at my lowest because I was exercising every day at a very high intensity. Since then I've gained 10 pounds back and can't seem to get back down to where I was. My energy seems zapped. I enjoy running and lifting weights, but can't imagine keeping up an intense program like I did in the past. I know that most of my problem comes from issues with food. So my focus now is on trying to eat more moderately and think of food as fuel, rather than a reward or pleasure. I know I'm on the right track and the podcasts have helped a lot! Keep me posted on your progress. > > > Hello everyone... > > I just subscribed to this group after listening to the IOWL podcast for the past couple of weeks.? Guest guest
Thanks ...It's really nice to know that there are other people in the same boat.? ? I can relate to that feeling of helplessness as far as not being able to keep up with the intensity of something I used to do.? I spent a lot of time beating myself up thinking that I wasn't doing ENOUGH and that the weight would therefore not budge.? I finally just had to surrender myself to the fact that I was doing SOMETHING as opposed to NOTHING.? That's really only been something I've been able to wrap my mind around the past month or two.? It's awesome that you are able to focus on improving your relationship with food.? And you've kept 60 lbs off for all ths time!? That's amazing!? Keep up the good work!? Guest guest
Hi Ladies, My daughter was a patient at Shriners Hospital in Salt Lake. We've tried casting and she would just curve as she growed. When even tried the halo for three months. We were referred to Primary Childrens in Salt Lake and they placed titanium ribs in her back. This was when she was five. She is ten now and doing much better. She gets surgery every six months in Utah, but each time we I still get nervouse because of her weight. She is still under weight and we can't seem to put the pounds on her so that she has enought fat to support her devices. Does anyone have the same problems with their child being under weight? Guest guest
My son has the same problem. We had a feeding tube and it didn't do much. So we took it out. All I can suggest is to give her pediasure or boost for kids and add butter, cream, whole milk etc... to her normal foods. This helps some!! This is what we do and my son still stays thin but he goes 100 mph all day long so he burns all the calories as soon as he eats them. I hope this helps some.
