Hello everyone,

I have my GI dr appt tomorrow to talk about starting treatment. I am

VERY nervous. How many of you give your self the shot and how many of

you have someone do it for you?

I want to be able to go somewhere every Friday after work and have a

nurse give me my shot. I am a huge wimp about this whole thing. My

mom said that I need to tell my dr that I am not comfortable giving

myself the shot.

My aunt had to get shots for something(I think shots to get pregnant)

and paid $2.00 thats not too bad for each visit.

If someone gives you the shots how much do you pay? How much do you

pay for your medicine a month?

I am going by myself to my dr appt and hope that everything will be

all right.

Thank you.

I would guess that just about all of the

group here give themselves their shots. I don’t recall hearing about

anyone paying to have someone do it. Perhaps some have a spouse or other

relative/friend do it.

Really, it’s not hard and it’s

not all that bad once you get the hang of it. Take a look at the little video

at

http://pegasys.com/

Click where it says “How To Take

Pegasys” and it’ll show you a short video about self injection.

Good luck, Dorothy

Hi and good luck tomorrow.

My mom used to have our cousin give her the injections, but slowly

started to feel comfortable injecting herself. I have never had any

problems with needles, so the injections weren't a problem for me.

If you are scared, would it be possible to have your mom or aunt or

another family member give you the injections until you get used to

it? Its a very small needle, and not injected through a vein, so

very easy to do. And really painless.

I gave my self shots, you don't have to hit a vein, just empty the syringe in the fatty part of your leg or stomach or somewhere like that. The doc will give you better instructions. I was like you in the beginning.....I didn't think I could give myself the shots....and actually my daughter gave me my first one....but I have done the rest....this will be my 10th week...and it's really very easy....and about your tx costs....you didn't say if you had insurance or not.....but i applied for assistance and I got my shots and pills free of charge....one thing I have learned to do is make myself a list of all the questions I have....because once I get in there I tend to forget something.....wishing you all the best tomorrow.... YOU WILL have to give yourself your own shots.. its quite easy and the needles are tiny,, you really DONT want anyone else to give you your shots as YOU will be exposing them to your blood.. do you want to spread this??? Your docs office will teach you how to do it, its no big deal.. honest.. I do not believe your insurance would pay for an office call each week so that the nurse can give you your shot,, and as you go along, you will not feel like going to the docs office.. the shots need to be given each week at the same time on the same day.. Most of us give ourselves the shots on Fri night about 8 pm so that by 10 pm, we're headed to bed and can sleep through most of the side effects..Come here to the forum when you know you're going to start your tx and we'll all go into the chat room and we can walk you through your shot.. YOU CAN DO

If you follow instructions, it's no more than a pin prick of pain and many times, once you get used to the angle, not even that. Sharon in NW Washington Knitting is...time and love made tangible. My doctor had suggested that I have

someone do my shots once in a while in the back of my upper arm (if I remember

correctly.) Since my one leg is bad, I had used only one thigh and alternated

between left & right abdomen. With the Procrit shots too, I was starting

to be bruised a lot.

If someone else were to do the shots, they

would most certainly need to wear gloves as a precaution.

And I always did the shot later on a

Friday night – 10:30 pm – so I’d be closer to bed time. As

Jackie said, this timeframe seems to work best. Most people who work then get

to have the 2-day weekend to deal with any side effects they may have before

heading back to work on Monday morning.

It really would be a major pain to have to

go to the doctor every week just for a shot……….and the

chances of getting a running appointment every week at the same time would be

difficult.

The needle is SO tiny that you don’t

even feel it go in. Sure, it’s a bit intimidating to most at first, but

after a week or two, it’s no big deal.
