If I can go thru 48 weeks, anyone can. I do not do well feeling sick, have a low pain tolerance level, etc etc..

However..

1. it does get better, and he has gone thru the worst part

2. he needs a good hepatolgist who will treat the sides

3. the benefits of treatment are great, regardless of outcome...

Tell him to hang in, show him this email.. this too shall pass...

amy, unfortunately it seems that most gastro will not treat the side effects,, dont know why because its the meds they are giving us that are making us feel so badly but most of us have to go to our pcp or primary care doc for meds to treat the other sides,, Jurydoctor@... wrote: If I can go thru 48 weeks, anyone can. My gastro says that the liver is under tremendous stress with the virus and the tx and they don't want to further that stress with meds that have an effect on the liver.

Makes sense, but is no fun. I went to my pcp and got what I needed, with limits of course. He gave me a sleep med, but would not give pain pills because they are harder on the liver, just like aspirin.

you're lucky because dr schiff is amazing, I know of others who go to him... but 'most' just wont do the rest,, dont know why either but they wont..I was lucky because my doc was fantasticJurydoctor@... wrote: Very true, that is why I suggest going to a hepatologist not just a GI person. My Hepatologist (Dr. Schiff at U of Miami) managed the hematology, psychiatric, dermatology problems I encountered with no problem. My primary is a cardiologist so she took care of the HBP

I hurt so bad some days, I truly did not think I would make it. I did LOTS of stretching and bending and gyrating, as much as my impaired body would do and that helped, but pills would have truly been welcome.Sharon in NW Washington Knitting is...time and love made tangible. Alison Hyde Re: words of encouragementwell I guess each doc has his own opinion and we're stuck with whatever doc we have.. mine gave pain pills to me because I promised not to take more than 4 per day and I never exceeded that.. and it was better to take the pain pills than to quit treatment because I hurt too badly to continue..SHARON CROSBY wrote: My gastro says that the liver is under tremendous stress with the virus and the tx and they don't want to further that stress with meds that have an effect on the liver.Makes sense, but is no fun.
