Guest guest
Hi all For those of you who do not know me I do not bullshit. I would like to share my experience of Dr Carbonne and my subsequent findings. Firstly I am an advocate of Verbal Behavior Programmes and implemented such to my son with great success. If you have not already read Sundberg and Partington's manuals on how to do it you should. I have a copy going free to anybody who wants it. The Grandaddy of VB is Jack s, disciple of Skinner. The devil as far as I am concerned is Carbonne. I don't care if he does see this, let him sue me. I used to be a member of the US based ME-List and then the VB list. For years. So eventually I found that Carbonne was providing workshops in the UK, on the back of a conference attendence, at at a reasonable price I was told, by the person who was organising it and on a relevant UK list (she quoted me prices in the region of £400 - this was a few years ago). So I contacted Dr. Carbonne and said I was interested in a private workshop/ assessment for my child. I subsequently received forms to complete about my child etc. A few days before the workshop I received an email from a assistant behaviour analyst on behalf of Dr. Carbonne informing me that she would conduct the assessment and that the terms were going to be £1500 plus travel, (at the price quoted for that obviously concord) and accommodation at the Hilton Hotel Edgeware Road. No mention of shared costs between parents, all full costs to me. As you can imagine, I wrote to Dr. Carbonne questioning this. I received a threatening email in response, saying I had a 'contract'and was expected to fulfull it. Enclosed an Invoice and repeated threats. Being me... :-) I wrote back a very succinct email to him setting him straight and questioning the ethics of the situation. He became very abusive indeed and threatened me, personally, with legal action if I ever spoke about the situation. My response was " come on! " I then researched him a little (I am sure there is more) and found that he frequently represents school boards in the USA in SEN court cases as a witness against against parents. Many parents who sent me info wanted annonymity, they were scared of him. He makes major money at this, this is central to his 'business'. And further, a friend sent me a copy of his CV and guess what? He spent *many* years as an officer (not a behavioural professional - a WARDER) in a young offenders correctional institution in the USA. In other words a prison warder for disturbed kids. Is this the kind of man you want to trust to consult on and work with your vulnerable child. And maybe screw you for money in the process? He is a scumbag in my opinion. But with a good commercial package. YUK! Celia.

Guest guest
Agree his workshops seem expensive when books are cheaper. Is Dr Carbone a MD or holds a doctorate in some other subject? Guest guest
Workshop #1: Introduction to Verbal Behavior Teaching Communication Skills To Children with Autism and Other Developmental Disabilities Presented by J. Carbone, Ed.D., Board Certified Behavior Analyst Feb 8,9, 10th, 2009 8:30-5:00 Location: Rose Castle 380 Flushing Avenue Brooklyn, NY 11205 This workshop focuses on the behavioral approach to teaching communication skills to children with autism and other developmental disabilities. This approach is based on B.F. Skinner's analysis of verbal behavior and the research of , Sundberg, Partington, and others. Participants in this workshop learn (1) to conduct a Behavioral Language Assessment, (2) to select the most appropriate form of communication for a child (vocal, signing, pointing to or exchanging pictures, or activating an augmentative device), and (3) to select the communication responses and supporting skills that should be taught first. The workshop includes the recommended teaching procedures for those children who have no formal communication skills to those that are near conversational speakers. The presenter also describes and demonstrates errorless teaching, specific quick-transfer (prompting and fading) procedures, and the use of both discrete trial training in the natural environment and during intensive teaching session. Many video tape demonstrations are provided to illustrate the methods to increase spontaneous language and to develop conversational skills. Fee: $385 10% discount for groups of 4 or more Contact Idy 718-851-0123 idy@... Or @ poeme_99@...
