CONFERENCE MISSION

This conference provides comprehensive, evidence-based information to assist

educators, providers and families in developing effective educational and

therapeutic programming for all students with autism spectrum disorders.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND

Family members, physicians, speech-language pathologists, administrators,

higher education faculty, general and special education professionals, early

intervention staff, related service personnel, behavioral health professionals

and anyone interested in autism spectrum disorders.

AUTISM CONFERENCE OUTCOMES

1. Describe appropriate interventions throughout the lifespan for

individuals with autism and their impact on improving impaired processes and/or

boosting alternative processing pathways.

2. Cite and relate specific research findings concerning the genetic

and biological bases of autism and identify potential contributions of further

research in this area.

3. Identify the cognitive differences of persons with ASD and associate

these with their demonstrated behavior and with effective interventions.

4. Identify ways to assess the effectiveness of interventions with

persons with ASD and apply those methods to several current intervention

strategies.

5. Identify the major characteristics of a behavioral approach to

teaching language to persons with autism and developmental disabilities.

6. Determine a practical and evidence-based approach for formulating

instructional plans for students with autism spectrum disorders in order to

have them progress in the general education curriculum, with specific

accommodations in language, cognition and social and motor skills.
