Dear Sharon,

I wish you could come Too!!!!! Maybe some day there can be a meeting in

the middle of the U.S., so that no one would have to travel so far. Maybe Iowa

or somewhere like that? I'd love to meet everyone. I don't last very long on

the computer, to bad it wasn't like a phone. Anyway, I hope you are having a

pain free day. Hugs, B

Dear ,

Hooray!!!! I'll be looking forward to meeting you. We all talked about

this in Las Vegas, but I'm not exactly sure who is coming. Anyway, I can't

wait. See you soon, B

Hello Friends,

Hope you are all fine. I made my long journey with no mishaps. My

dad has been home for a week and is making a remarkable recovery. He

is doing alot better than I had expected. Anyway, I miss my home

computer but the library is the next best thing. I will come down here

a couple of times a week, and check in with you all. I have been

feeling pretty good lately and all is well for now. Take good care

everyone and I will check in again soon...........God Bless,

I'd suggest that it is entirely possible that the laptop hardware itself may be

perfectly fine,

but you've got a scrambled and/or infected OS installation. If you replace the

OS on it, you

may find it to be perfectly fine, though it's hard to say exactly, since you

don't say

(exactly) how it " shuts down when you don't want it to " since that could be

purely OS-

related, and then again, it could be hardware malfunction, all depending,

possibly being

caused from overheating, or... just defective hardware. It is worth nothing

that just

because something *can* run off the battery and you *can* lug it around, does

not

necessarily mean it is meant to be a computer you run on your lap: there are

what's known

as " desktop replacements " that look like a laptop, are battery-powered-enabled

like a

laptop, but otherwise are rather powerful machines, with all the requisite power

usage and

waste heat generation issues that go with powerful machines (for the era of the

technology). When I moved to Washington state for the job that brought me here,

I was

issued just such a machine, as I was using it to develop 3D CAD software on it.

It had a

desktop version of the Pentium 4 processor at 3.4 Ghz, a fairly high-end

discrete video

card controller, and a fair amount of RAM for the time (1.5 GB, in early 2005).

It was NOT

meant to really be used on your lap: while you could, for a short period of

time, doing for

too long of periods of time may render you sterile, due to the heat output!

And, that's

assuming it wouldn't overheat from the air flow being blocked off, and that's

even without

trying to run it off the battery and playing a DVD (you could, until the machine

overheated

and shut off: I honestly never did figure out whether or not the battery would

last for a

full 90+ minute movie before it overheated). This machine weighed around 10

pounds...

When they laid me off in September 2006 (first of 3 layoffs I've had since

moving here,

latest being from Yahoo! December 10th this year) I was only too happy to return

that

machine back to my boss, as it was a royal PITA, and heated my office or

apartment all

too readily :P (no kidding, I could heat my bedroom with the thing, and the

cooling fan

would be whining full speed).

Now, a note about caffeine: it can be likened to being a credit card, in that it

appears to

give you energy/focus more immediately, but you'll have to pay it back later,

with interest.

There are also cases where it has valid medicinal uses for enhancing the effects

of certain

drugs, which is something to watch out for (IIRC some of the prescription pain

killers, one

I've had for kidney stones, has it for that reason) as it can interact in ways

you may not

expect. There is absolutely no doubt that caffeine is an addictive drug: just

watch what

becomes of people that suddenly are without it that have become rather dependent

on it.

If this area were suddenly to have no coffee/tea/caffeinated beverages delivered

and it

was out of them for 2 weeks, I'd be sure to get out of the area if I were aware

of that :P

(Living across the alley from a drive-thru Starbucks, with another one across

the street on

another side of the building, and... there's other coffee shops in sprinting

distance! Coffee

shops are like roaches here, and my family jokes that the next place I live,

I'll be renting

out space to Starbucks. I wonder if I'm inhaling any meaningful amount of

caffeine...)

Chocolate doesn't necessarily have any meaningful amount of caffeine in it

naturally:

there's something similar to caffeine in it that's natural, but not so much of

the caffeine,

but it is often added as an extra ingredient. My source for this information is

from

someone that retired from Pfizer, who had a doctorate it microbiology (IIRC) (he

died a

few years ago of old age).
