This Thrusday June 26th 6:30 pm Verbal Behavior and Pairing with Reinforcement This workshop will outline the components of an effective Verbal Behavior program, define what reinforecment is and how to pair attention and instruction with reinforcment. Presented by Nhu Quach MS BCBA Nhu is a board certified behavior analyst ( " BCBA " ) with over ten years of experience working with children with autism and other developmental disabilities. As a former Carbone Associate, Nhu was trained by Dr. Carbone in the application of the principles of verbal behavior and behavior analysis. Nhu completed her Master of Science (MS) in Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) at California State University, Los Angeles. Her master's thesis demonstrated the role of joint control in teaching children with autism to follow and generalize multi-step receptive instructions and was completed under the guidance and supervision of Dr. Barry Lowenkron - the founder of joint control. Nhu also received two years of graduate training in research, design, development and analysis of experimental behavior methodology at West Virginia University, the nation's leading institution for experimental behavior analysis. Nhu is experienced with and designs programs for children aged 2 to 14 years. Her clients are composed of children of all skill levels, ranging from those with no appropriate communication or social skills to those with comparatively high level skills. She has provided consultation services for families throughout the US, Canada, China, and Turkey. She has also provided workshops for professionals and paraprofessionals throughout the US. Tuesday July 22nd 6:30-9:00pm Teaching Manding: Capturing & Contriving Motivation Many children with autism and other developmental disabilities fail to develop adequate language skills in the form of talking. Some children are not even able to make speech sounds, while others can imitate any sound or word they hear. But sometimes even these children do not speak spontaneously or in a way that has meaning to the listener. Presented by: Amy McGinnis, M.S., M.S., OTR/L, BCBA Amy McGinnis began providing direct ABA services teaching verbal behavior in 1998, working with individuals with autism and other developmental disabilities. She has received extensive training and experience in implementing the procedures of applied behavior analysis, specifically Skinner's analysis of verbal behavior, to teach language, socialization, play skills, motor skills, academics, and the management of problem behaviors across all environments. Amy holds a Master of Science degree in occupational therapy from Alvernia College, and is a nationally registered occupational therapist. She also holds a masters degree in Applied Behavior Analysis from Florida Institute of Technology, and is a Board Certified Behavior Analyst. She currently provides consultative services to families, clinics, and schools across the United States and abroad.
