Guest guest
http://www.siriming.com/Siri_Ming,_BCBA.html Siri Ming does distance supervision and consultation, as well as board prep with well designed online couses. She is amazing. I don't know if she has available hours right now, but certainly you can try. I am lucky enough to be starting an internship with her and I can say that she is simply the best. hth, Kathleen No child is “perfectly” whole in mind, body, spirit, ability…nor can any child meet all of a parent’s hopes and expectations. Yet there is a wholeness of each and every child, a wholeness that is unique and brings with it a unique set of possibilities and limitations, a unique set of opportunities for fulfillment. -Fred , Mister ’ Neighborhood********************************************************************\ ***** Supervision requirements for BCABAs Posted by: " Kathy Pusztavari " kathy@... harriska2 Date: Mon Jan 26, 2009 7:40 pm ((PST)) Hi all, I'm having a hard time figuring out how to get supervised as a BCABA without a caseload. I'm required to have 10 1 hr a month of visual supervision 2 1 hour a month of face to face in order to continue my certification. The problem with this is that the closest BCBA is 1.5 hrs away and they charge a minimum of $60 and I have to do skype or some video conferencing for those 10 times. All this for not having a caseload and talking about current research - which could easily be an essay or phone conference. How are other states/BCABAs doing this? Has anyone heard of any good methods or companies that can deal with the 10 out of 12 sessions that are supposed to be visual but can be group? All this without breaking the bank. My other option is to simply forego my certification and just say, oh well, there goes $6000 and a ton of work. Any help is great as I am supposed to get this done by the end of the week. - Kathy Pusztavari
Guest guest
Kathy, I am receiving excellent distance supervision for my BCBA fieldwork through a group that has the technology part figured out, through uploading of video recordings, graphs, etc, as well as online videoconferencing (virtual meeting rooms). You can watch your video and make graphs together online. I am a BCBA candidate, and I don't know if they supervise aspiring BCABAs as well. You'll need to contact them and find out. I cannot imagine how you would achieve fieldwork without actually working with clients - or why you would want to miss this most important part of the preparation. Despite having aced the ABA coursework, and having 30 years hands-on experience as an SLP, I need the actual implementation of ABA to develop even a beginning level of competence. And that's with my supervisor giving feedback on my videos. I'd be surprised that you could complete the requirement any other way. So, if you don't have a caseload, I strongly recommend that you create  one for your fieldwork, by volunteering your time at a local agency, such as a public school special education program or preferred target population. Get parent permission to make video recordings for review with your distance supervisor. Like you, I don't have a local BCBA I can work with throughout the year, given the location of my full-time employment as an SLP. My distance-supervisor and I recognize that " distance " supervision is a second choice, as an arrangement. However, you can still get the very best of supervisors, and have an excellent experience. My supervisor and others in the company are university instructors/Ph.D. candidates  with a history in  direct and indirect (online) supervision. They provide online conferencing (live meeting room s), and technical support for capturing video, graphs, etc to discuss online .  I highly recommend the staff of BCBAs at Josh Pritchard's company, JKP Analysts. Contact them at:    http://jkpanalysts.com/supervision.php Good luck (and don't settle for anything less than hands-on experienc e, and a supervisor with high expectations ) Ann Douvier, SLP ABA Student [ ] Supervision requirements for BCABAs Hi all, I'm having a hard time figuring out how to get supervised as a BCABA without a caseload.
