Guest guest
Autism Advocacy Coalition of Virginia (AAC-VA) brings part 2 of its series entitled Survival Strategies for Everyday Living. Part 1 was on behavior management. Part 2 is on social and relationship awareness. Every day, individuals with autism struggle to relate with their environment and the important people in their lives. Families face the challenge of dealing with this inability to socially interact. Social interaction opens doors to better communication and self management skills. Teaching individuals with autism to socially interact and relate to the environment in their daily lives is a key to their progress. Workshop Description: This workshop teaches how to incorporate social interaction goals into daily living for individuals with autism across ALL levels of the spectrum (including non-vocal learners). Specifically, this workshop will discuss (1) how individuals with autism can be taught to be interested in gaining the social attention of family members, peers and other important people (2) ways to develop leisure activities that focus on social interaction; (3) how to teach individuals with autism to be curious which in turn builds the foundation for advanced language skills; and (4) provide coping strategies for dealing with anxiety and obsessions that occur in social environments. The workshop will also focus on the key role that social awareness plays in language development and behavior management. Speakers: Kimberlee Ambach BCaBA & Nadya Molina BCBA Date & Time: February 22nd, 2009 from 1:00-4:00 PM Location: Hilton andria at Mark Center, 5000 Seminary Road, andria, VA 22311 (703) 845-1010 For registrations, go to: http://aacva.org/workshops3.html For questions, contact: events@...
