Guest guest
An excellent autism seminar will be held in Savannah, GA on April 7 called " Motivating Children with Autism to Speak: Incorporating ABA Principles to Build Functional Communication. " The presenter is Tamara Kasper, MS, CCC-SLP, BCBA, a nationally-known speaker who is both a speech language pathologist & a board certified behavior analyst. We're offering a $99/person special rate. (Regular rate is $179/person.) FEAT South is offering this discounted rate to each person who registers, as we hope as many folks as possible can take advantage of this great opportunity. This is a popular & highly regarded seminar, so we recommend that you reserve your seats as soon as you are able. We have seating available now, but in the past this seminar has filled to capacity about a week before the event. Please feel free to contact us about seating availability. The seminar is open to speech therapists, teachers, tutors, & parents, & provides real world examples of practical and easily implemented interventions that can be applied across different settings. Many children with autism live with little or no verbal skills. The inability to communicate even the basic requests creates a high level of frustration, and can lead to many challenging behaviors. This seminar shines a light on the challenges in working with children with autism, & provides outside-the-box teaching strategies to reduce problem behavior during teaching, to promote functional communication, & to increase early vocal skills. Procedures to shape functional verbal & /or manual communication will be addressed, including utilization of the K & K Sign and Say teaching tool, Kaufman's system of hierarchy of vocalizations (Kaufman's word shell cards), and others will be discussed. Methods of effective transfer of skills from vocal imitation to spontaneous requesting will be presented. Focused on practical strategies, dozens of video clips of treatment methods are shown all day. The seminar has been approved for 0.6 CEUs through ASHA for speech therapists.
