Guest guest
Sheila Kippley has recently published two books on ecological breastfeeding. 1) The Seven Standards of Ecological Breastfeeding: The Frequency Factor updates her current book Breastfeeding and Natural Child Spacing formerly published by CCL but which is no longer available. The primary emphasis in The Seven Standards is on the baby-care behaviors that cooperate to postpone the return of fertility. When the Seven Standards are practiced, ecological breastfeeding is an effective form of natural family planning that delays the return of fertility for an average of 14 to 15 months. 2) Upon request Sheila has also published the classic Harper & Row 1974 edition of Breastfeeding and Natural Child Spacing. The emphasis in this work is on the natural mothering and the ecology of the mother and baby relationship. It encourages mothers to be counter-cultural without dropping out of society. A few short updates are included in this book. The two books are almost entirely different with different research and different quotations, but of course a small amount of overlap is unavoidable. Both books can be seen and ordered at www.nfpandmore.org and www.lulu.com. (The easiest way is to start with the former; clicking on the book takes you to the publisher’s site.) Lulu Publishing estimates that both books will be available at Amazon.com and at retailers toward the end of September. Sheila is now blogging daily during World Breastfeeding Week (Aug 1 – 7). The “blogs” are first-person stories from a variety of mothers in different situations. Some are quite touching and some involve medical situations. See the upper right corner at our website for blogs.
