Guest guest
In Austin I would call the Capital School or the clinic that Kelle Wood works at. They may be able to connect you with key people to help. You may also want to talk to other parents about the Hanen Language (is this what it is called?) program at UT. Here are excerpts from old posts that were in the FILES: Capitol School (Horizon program) can be reached by calling Franco at 467-7006. This is an ABA verbal behavior program that uses both Kelle Wood and Dr. Carbone as consultants. It is a far reaching program that starts with a Mom and tot class and has a verbal stimulation class as well as a new upcoming after school clinic and 3 levels of ABA classes for the older kids ages 3 to 8. The ratio is 1 to 1 and they are doing marvelous things with kids. The Horizon program has tripled in the 2 years it's been open and new exciting things are coming. ------------------ The answer to your tuition question will probably vary from what it is currently but knowing that I will tell you that the Horizon program runs year round with never more than a week off at a time. The tuition is 25k a year paid monthly at $2,100. This cost includes OT, music therapy, AVB , adapted PE , inclusion, play therapy and (I'm working on it) Pet Pal therapy, and a sensory motor room. Be sure to check out Dr. Carbones report on the Horizon program as we just received it back a few weeks ago. It's great when a doctor of verbal behavior thinks your doing a great job and not just some giddy parent! > How do I find a therapist for my son. He is two and is showing > signs of autism. I'm frantic to find somone in Austin (or even > S.A.) and I'm having ZERO luck. > kimberly nash

These are the service providers that I am familiar with. I think someone else mentioned Cherokee pediatric therapy as an option. I am also familar with Summitt learning center (I don't know if they do home visits though). Then there is Bridging the Gap (you might have seen their posts on the board recently extending their services to Cherokee county). You also might want to try ABAconnections.com. There is also Integrated Behavioral Services and Reinforcement Unlimited. Hope I was some help. , M.S.

Guest guest
Hi there, You are not far from the Emory Autism Center in Atlanta. The Bridges Family Program there may be a useful resource for you in this regard. Their approach is based on incidental teaching (one of the approaches that falls under the ABA umbrella). Other organizations in the area include Reinforcement Unlimited, and May South. If you google any of these you should be able to get contact details. You can also try searching the Behavior Analysis Certification Board registry at the following website http://www.bacb.com/consum_frame.html though not all of those people specialize in early intervention.
