I have long, curly brown hair down to almost my butt. When I was on MTX for

about 6 months I was in the shower and a HUGE chunk of my hair fell out. I

remember just standing there stunned and then running down the hall in my towel

to my dorm room to my phone to call my mom! We cried together and then I called

my Dr. first thing in the morning. He put me on more Folic Acid and changed me

from pill MTX to injection and I really haven't had a problem since. It can be

so scary though! The things that we have to endure really stink!

I agree with Norma! Just think Joe....you could look like Bruce Willis or

Vin Diesel! (Wink!)

Has any one told you about Nioxin? Its super expensive shampo and conditioner,

but I use it in combo with folic acid and it has seemed to slow the falling out

to just the normal rate. Also, when I was majorly flaring, lost tons of hair,

when the meds where controlling " the dragon " , it seemed to ease up. As you get

stronger your hair will " hang in there " too. :)

Because of the meds. I'm taking my hair is falling-out

all over everything. I bought three different wigs

(they look very natural), each wig is a different

color and style ... might as will have some fun with

this damn disease!

So SEXY JOE, let the hair fall where it may and

polish-up that bald head.

Hey everyone, sorry I haven't posted in so long, but I finally made it

through treatment, this past Friday. I had a lot of problems along

the way, mainly with my platelets falling to 25,000 and my wbc's

seemed to hang around 1.5 and I stayed so tired, my resting heart rate

is 98 and that can wear you out, that's with 3 Neupogen shots a week,

but Thank God I hope it is finally over. I reached undetectable at

week 4 of treatment and have remained to stay there. I had more blood

work done today to check my viral load, and I hope I am still

undetectable.

My question, I have had some thinning of the hair through treatment,

not alot though, but since this past Friday it has started to come out

in clumps. I noticed that my head started to really get sore, has

anyone else experienced hair loss at the end of treatment?

Thanks

Sharon

Sharon, the exact same thing happened to me. Coincidently, I was

also undetectable at week 4…a very good thing!!

I had read so much about hair loss, but

mine didn’t start until right at the end. I didn’t have any

soreness, but the hair loss did stop – it took about 6 weeks maybe after

treatment ended. I was thinking about it just the other day. I am

now at 6 months post treatment and I don’t see any hair at all in the

shower any more.

I guess that we were fortunate and it just

took longer for us to have the hair loss…….you should be fine in a

month or two. If the soreness continues though, I’d have it checked

by a dermatologist.

Congratulations on finishing!! It’s

such a super feeling!!

Actually I lost it through out treatment and got quite thin. But never completely lost everything. Just enough to be pain in the butt.

The good thing is it grows back. Took me a while but slowly but surely it came back.

Treatment

does some strange things. I notice the hair on my head is getting

thinner, but the hair on my chest is getting thicker. My nose hairs aren’t

growing, but my ear hair and fingernails are growing faster.

Weird.

Hi Sharon, I had a lot of hair loss during treatment ( I only went 17 weeks) My hair continued to fall out for about 2 months after discontinuing tx and then started to slow down and then stopped. I lost about 70% of my hair according to my hair dresser. BUT.. when it came back, it came in much thicker and with loose curls! I love it now... I would check with your Doc about the soreness.

Congratulations on your completing tx and may you stay clear for ever!

Indeed weird .

But kind of humorous too. Cause the same thing is happening to my husband and he doesn't have HCV. I think it is being middle aged. Hmmmm

Just kidding.

I wondered…

Part of the problem with HCV and treatment at my age is not know what is normal

and what isn’t.
