Get a script for a 3 month supply and reorder when you are down to 4 syringes. My pharmacy wanted me to order after my last syringe was used!!!! I had a fit then :) Well needless to say I got what I wanted. I used to be a pharmacy tech and know all the potential pit falls and take care of it way before I need it. Like the neupogen and procrit shots. I am not taking them now but I may need them. All prior approvals and things that could hold up a shot are resolved. I know how long it will take to order it via mail order and thru my local pharmacy should mail order screw up. Back up plans for everything including a hurricane which could shut down my pharmacy for weeks.

Its allot but nothing compared to after transplant which I have also gotten all straighted out because I could potentially be on 30 to 50 different medications. Yikes! My poor husband! I an training him now and making him a active participant in how to read scripts and medications. He like most people think it was as easy as getting a script and ordering it. Pharmacies lie and tell you anything to avoid a scream fest at the pharmacy :) I know I was one of those people.

My husband is 28 weeks into treatment Pegasys and Riba along with Procrit, and Prozac. I called his Pegasys and Riba into the pharmacy on Monday (hubby needed his shot last night) Well the pharmacy never ordered his Pegasys. They said they faxed the paperwork to the dr monday afternoon and haven't heard back from the dr. I called the dr office and they told me it was faxed back on Tuesday the pharmacy says they never received it. Regardless someone really screwed up. Now it is straighted out now but the Pegasys has to be ordered and the pharmacy will not have it until Monday. Has anyone had this happen to them? Does it mess up all of the weeks he has done? Will he have bad side effects from getting the shot so late? What can we expect to happen?Believe me I tried every pharmacy in town and no one keeps this stuff on hand they all said they would have to order it. I could not even get it

through our hospital. I am going to have to find another pharmacy because I through such a fit in there yesterday they asked me to leave. The manager called me later and explained to me it wasn't their fault and that I treated their people with disrespect and that my husband could pick up his meds on Monday. So I guess they don't want me in there store anymore.

Yes, I have had this happen. I used Walgreens when I lived in Tulsa area. They did the same thing to me. And yes I changed pharmacy. Talk to your doctor about taking the shot a couple of days short or long in your case. It should not be a great problem.

I had it happen to me. We just had to adjust things, but I worked

with my doctors nurse to work it out so that I had a continuous

amount of care and meds.

I changed to the Wal-mart pharmacy, and they were wonderful.

They shipped my meds to me via UPS, and they came right on time. They called me before and after each shipment, every thing came packed with ice packs, and in great condition. They had a

help line nurse that said if I had any problems give her a call and she would help in anyway that she could. I liked that.

he is far enough along that hopefully it wont cause a problem but I'd make sure that he has the shots at your house at least 2 weeks before he needs them.. I only had a problem once with my meds which came from florida to Oregon at the time and once they sent my meds to salt lake city and it delayed them , I MADE THEM drive them to Oregon via fedex and I drove to the other side of Portland at midnight to pick them up,, but it was still Fri... so it was only a couple of hours late,,

being late can cause issues with rebound virus if its long enough so please dont let them screw this up again, its not your fault, its theirs,,, Jackie

I think that Jackie is referring to quasispecies activation - a quasispecies is one of many viruses that lie within the hepatitis c genotype. Sometimes, when treatment is started, the hep c virus will try and mutate to elude your immune system. If the treatment is stopped or interrupted, this gives the quasispecies opportunity to grow. I know if sounds complicated. But it is a very important factor to know about before starting treatment - starting and stopping treatment can be very dangerous as it can open the door for a viral mutation. And another reason that your doctor should be prepared and willing to treat the sides of the combo treatment to KEEP YOU ON TREATMENT.

Here's more:

"There are six major groupsor genotypes numbered 1 to 6 althoughsome experts believe that there may beas many as 11. Within each genotypeare further divisions called subtypes (forexample 1a and 1b) and mutations ofthe hepatitis C virus called quasispecies.HCV constantly changes and mutates as itreplicates—more than 1 trillion hepatitisC virions replicate each day. During thereplication process, the hepatitis C virus willmake ‘bad’ copies or errors in the geneticmake-up of the newly replicated viruses. Theprocess of constant mutation helps the virusevade the body’s immune response---whenthe dominant quasi-species is eradicated, another quasi-species emerges. This requiresthe immune system to constantly identifyand kill the newly emerged variants. Thisis one of the reasons why so many people

develop chronic disease. Scientists believethere are literally millions of different HCVquasispecies in everyone infected withhepatitis C, which are unique to everyonebecause of the individual’s immune responseto HCV. Quasispecies may play a role indisease progression and treatment response, but this is still controversial and more studiesare needed to fully appreciate the role ofquasi-species.

Your hubby should be fine - as Jax said, he's been on treatment for awhile so he should be okay.

Hope this helps!

its also that if you dont keep the pressure on this virus, if you dont keep pounding it,, it can rebound stronger than ever.. so giving it extra hours with not enough Inf/ ribavirin in the blood to hold it back can allow it to rage on.. Jackie

It’s

also possible, though rare, for the virus to mutate while on treatment.

Would that be when the viral load starts to raise after it has dropped quite a bit during treatment? Does that mean it has mutated?

you people are scaring the begivers out of me. I just tested positive a couple of months ago and havent had a bio or began tx. It sounds like there is no point if the bug just keeps mutating until nothing works, or Im super sick, or have to have a transplant, or die.

What can we expect to happen?Believe me I tried every pharmacy in town and no one keeps this stuff on

hand they all said they would have to order it. I could not even get it through our hospital. I am going to have to find another pharmacy because I through such a fit in there yesterday they asked me to leave. The manager called me later and explained to me it wasn't their fault and that I treated their people with disrespect and that my husband could pick up his meds on Monday. Hi Don,

Relax. I think what was being referred to was missing meds on time.

If I miss giving my kitty her insulin shot on time , it can cause a

major mess. It IS important to take the meds on time when in

treatment. And Hep C has a mind of its' own. Mine apparently has

chosen to mosey along causing NO major problems for over 40+ years.

To decide how yours is going to play out even before you have very

much information(biopsy, etc)is just adding stress for no valid

reason. A certain percentage of women get breast cancer. I have

breasts. Does that mean I will get breast cancer or if I do that mine

will be untreatable? No, but it does mean that I should get

mammograms to keep a check. Unfortunately, some get very ill with

Hep C, some less ill and some hardly ill. We rally around those who

are very ill because that is when they need our support the most. To

assume you will get very ill is jumping to conclusions. Keep cool,

get things in order and get to an MD to find out more about your

particular Hep C.

Hugs to you, SuziQ

Don't be scared , this treatment right now is the only option for a cure but not everyone makes it to that point . But I think everyone should try the treatment at least once in their lives . I have treated several times and am hoping to try again , despite the side effects . Not everyone gets sick , some sail right through .

I do have plans to go to manhatten to get a biopsy and bloodwork. Providing I can get a ride there and back. Id like to know where I stand with this virus, and hear what the doc advises me to do.

Then I will probly come back here and mull it over with all of you.

First things first tho. I have to move out of this motel room in herington to a hs or apt in salina, and transfer all my 'stuff' there, like SSI, food stamps, get furnature, dishes, etc.

Im starting over completely since my lady dumped me here. [Not her fault. She watched her sister die in her arms of hep C just a couple of months ago, and doesnt want to go thru that one again. I understand, I think, seeing as I have the same thing. The diff is tho is that I dont drink and am starting taking better care of myself immediately.]

Still I will be facing this alone. My family doesnt care for me, no sweetie or friend to hold my hand, no support grp to whine to except on the internet.

I am afraid of all I may have to face with no caregiver or personal one on one contact. Thoughts like what if Im sick in bed and cannot get out to buy food, get meds, etc.

Still I will try to tough it out. Maybe God has a plan because I sure dont.

If things get really bad for me there is no one but the wah-bulance to call.

Im scared, I admit it. I know little of what Im facing. I do know I could use all the help I could get.

I want to thank all of you for the tons of info, not that I can remember 1/100th of it, or the questions I may need to ask the doc.

Sorry to be a 57 y/o baby. I was never a tough guy.

love

Don

Perhaps your caseworker can arrange to have someone come in and check on you during treatment. That might be a question you need to ask her.

Don, This treatment SHOULD scare the bejeses out of you,, out of anyone.. its not just like taking an antibiotic or something.. but its all we have to combat this virus at this time.. That is why a biopsy is soooo important ,, so you can tell how far along you are towards cirrhosis and how 'fast' it is moving.. Jackie
