Guest guest
Well I can't believe I am this far into my treatment. Up until a couple weeks ago I wasn't having any side effects hardly at all except some nausea once in a while and extreme tiredness. Now the tiredness is worse and I found out that my Hemoglobin is 8.4. I just went for repeat labs today (from one week ago). My Dr. said if my Hemo (red blood cells I think), is the same or lower I will have to start getting some kind of shots. I can't remember what they are but I'll find out for sure tomorrow. I wanted to ask about a weird side effect. Lately I've been having a constant metal taste in my mouth and my skin is suddenly very itchy. Not the kind of itch you can scratch either. Well hope you all are doing good. Rochelle
Guest guest
Hi Rochelle Those symptoms you are experiencing are pretty normal,, that nasty metal taste nearly drove me nuts,, and it seems like everything smelled and looked right, food wise but it never tasted right,, what your doc is speaking about is procrit,, it is a blood booster that causes your bones to make more red blood cells.. and needing procrit seems to be fairly normal while on tx.. some of us also needed neupogen for white blood cells should they get too low too.. I had to take them both but found that the neupogen for white blood cells seemed to be the most painful and caused severe bone pain,, thats when I had to start taking a stronger pain med other than tylenol,, I had to take norco from the time I had to start taking neupogen... Keep doing what you're doing, sounds like you are handling tx well! keep us updated how you are doing too! hugs jaxJackie Subject: 13 weeks intoTo: Hepatitis_C_Central Date: Tuesday, August 19, 2008, 3:58 PM Well I can't believe I am this far into my treatment. Guest guest
Yup the metal taste in the mouth is a common side among us on treatment. And the itchiness, yeah been there done that. One of the things that I did was lotion up good, and often. Make sure that when you take showers, try using lukewarm water instead of hot. I know it doesn't feel as good as a hot shower but it will help with the dry skin and the itchiness.
