Guest guest
My name is Carolyn and this is the first group I have ever joined. I thought it would be a good way to meet and talk with people who are on the same journey as I am. I got an ipod for my birthday and love the podcasts, they are really great. I am grateful I came across them. I have read through some of the messages here, my problem with finding that naturally slender person..lol... is me. I will do great, go the gym, eat perfectly and then because I do so well, it is like I am rewarding myself for doing it and eat the ice cream. Crazy making....any of you do that? I don't understand why I do this. Well I just wanted to introduce myself and say hello and wish everyone a sucessful day on our journey, I am intending to walk forward today without stepping back...no ice cream today... Guest guest
Carolyn -- You asked a question about ice cream as a treat? I know addresses this in a podcast early in the series, but I just happened to have THIS in my inbox this morning (and I believe there are no accidents). I subscribe to this blog: http://www.happiness- project.com/happiness_project/2008/11/finding-happine.html AND JUST THIS MORNING, I had a link to this post in my email. Here's a portion: ***************************** Finding happiness: 5 happiness boosters that actually do more harm than good. Every Wednesday is Tip Day. This Wednesday: 5 happiness boosters that actually do more harm than good. Everyone has a few tricks for beating the blues – things you do when you're feeling down to try to boost your mood. It turns out, however, that several of the most popular strategies don't actually work very well in the long term. Beware if you are tempted to try any of the following: 1. Comforting yourself with a " treat. " Often, the things we choose as " treats " aren't good for us. The pleasure lasts a minute, but then feelings of guilt, loss of control, and other negative consequences just deepen the lousiness of the day. So when you find yourself thinking, " I'll feel better after I have a few beers…a pint of ice cream…a cigarette…a new pair of jeans, " ask yourself – will it REALLY make you feel better? It might make you feel worse. In particular, beware of… 2. Letting yourself off the hook. I've found that I sometimes get a real happiness boost from giving something up, quitting something, or breaking a bad habit. For example, I feel very happy about having given up fake food. When you're feeling down, you might be tempted to let yourself off the hook, to think, " I'll allow myself to skip my run today, I need a break. " In fact, sticking to a resolution will boost your sense of self-esteem and self-control. So NOT letting yourself off the hook might do more to boost your happiness... ****************************** And then I read your post and thought -- how appropriate!!! You see, you can approach the " treat " feeling in a different way if you realize that other " treats " like And I so struggle with this myself (in fact, I'm blogging about it later today on my blog: http://www.iofitwithang.blogspot.com/ ), so I EMPATHIZE with you!! Take care, I'm off to " shred " with Jillian s while I wait for my P90X to arrive!!!!
