Guest guest
I have been asked to forward the following email to my groups pages. ----- Forwarded Message ---- From: Higinbotham <maryhig@...> Schramm <knospeaba_robert@...> Sent: Sunday, July 12, 2009 10:50:54 PM Subject: RE: Iowa Workshop in Aug, Autism Consultants Presents: Schramm, MA, BCBA Program:Introductory ABA/VB workshop " Be a child's/student’s best teacher " A workshop By Schramm, MA, BCBA August 4th-5th, 2009 Davenport, Iowa About This Workshop: This is not a typical workshop designed to merely explain what ABA with Verbal Behavior is. This workshop introduces many of the major principles of ABA/VB offering information that will allow those in attendance to begin thinking about the behavior choices of their children with (and without) autism in more productive and successful ways. (Note: ABA is a scientific approach to assessing behavior and can only be conducted by trained individuals under the guidance of a qualified behavior analyst). Day One: The principles of ABA/VB 1. " Knospe-ABA (pronounced Kenosspuh-ABA) is the home of Germany’s first " Board Certified Behavior Analyst. " American born and educated, Schramm, MA, BCBA, has lived in Los Angeles, California and worked with children since 1991 turning his focus to autism in 1997. Since 2004, has been living in Germany and offering workshop, consultation and education services to families of children with autism, asperger’s and other related disorders in Europe. 's team of consultants (led by his wife Nadine) has been responsible for the behavioral education of over 250 children in Germany and its surrounding countries. In addition to family geared workshops, Knospe-ABA offers in-house workshops and trainings on ABA/VB to schools, autism centers and other institutions interested in learning more about Applied Behavior Analysis and Verbal Behavior. “We teach the science of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) and Verbal Behavior (VB) to parents, teachers, therapists, and psychologists who want to give children with autism the best possible environment in which to live and learn.†" Educate Toward Recovery: Turning the Tables on Autism " is commonly the first book recommended to others by its readers. Specifically written to share the benefits of the most modern and advanced procedures of Applied Behavior Analysis, " ETR " offers a clear and well-developed insight into the " how " and " why " a child with autism is best served by the Verbal Behavior approach to ABA. Do not let the name fool you. Educate Toward Recovery does not suggest that the concept of recovery is attainable for every child or even necessary for a child's happiness. However, it does discuss what recovery is (as opposed to the term " cure " ) and why certain procedures common in traditional ABA programs might be teaching a child discrete skills but not necessarily teaching him in the direction of recovery. Although extremely beneficial for professionals as well, parents are the true winners when it comes to the information of this book. ETR is overflowing with real world examples of how you can better understand your child while teaching him to better understand the social world. A child's interactions are never neutral. They are learning experiences that either teach him closer to or farther away from the concept of recovery. Understanding the principles of ABA and the procedural recommend actions of Verbal Behavior can quickly allow you to turn the table on autism's effects. Through Chapters dealing with The Possible Purposes of Behavior, Increasing Positive Behavior Choices while Decreasing Problem Behavior, Teaching the " Control Child " , The Ins and Outs of the Discrete Trial Teaching Method, Teaching with Motivation, The Benefits of Errorless Learning, Natural Environment Teaching, Teaching Non-verbal Children to Speak, Increasing Functional Language, Toilet Training, ABA/VB and the Public School System, The Ethics of ABA, How to Become your Child's True Expert, and much, much, more, ETR can teach you how to guide your child's education with the use of commonly accepted, scientifically validated, principles and procedures. For anyone considering ABA or wondering if they should upgrade their current ABA program to incorporate the Verbal Behavior approach, Educate Toward Recovery is an invaluable source of information and insight. 's Two Day Intensive Introductory ABA/VB Workshop offers many of the same topics of the book with more than 20 video demonstrations of the principles and recommendations in action. The value of this two-day Introductory workshop comes from its ability to take the work of ABA/VB pioneers like Partington, Sundberg, and Carbone, and help make them more understandable and practical for the parent, therapist, school teacher or other Special Ed. Professionals working and caring for children with Autistic Spectrum Disorder. See what parents and professionals are saying about ABA/VB, Educate Toward Recovery, and Schramm. Michele L. , M.A.,BCBA - Director: Behavior Consulting Inc. ( http://www.andersonbehaviorconsulting.com) " In writing " ETR " , has developed an important book for the future of Verbal Behavior and ABA. This book provides an educational window into VB that allows any reader to have a deep understanding how it should be used in programming for children with autism. I personally have used 's book in my own Behavior Consultation Practice and suggest it as reading to all my clients, and employees. " ETR " is a wonderful contribution to the VB/ABA literature and a step forward for promotion of VB Programs world-wide. Thank you for this incredible book! " jeanne Schwartz, MS, SLP, TSHH, BCBA - Licensed Speech-Language Pathologist (jeanneSchwartz @hotmail. com) " You are so easy to understand that I can gear the training to any audience... Thank you for putting what I do every day for the past 6 years (since learning about skinner's analysis of verbal behavior) into every day plain English for all to finally better understand! Womack (Parent) " I have not only read 's book but have the opportunity to be educated about Verbal Behavior by himself... VB was tiring at first, but the absolute best thing we ever implemented. The art of pairing and using reinforcers to gain attention and instructional control is genius and yet soooooo very simple. I am constantly amazed... My child actually brings me items without prompts, so that we can " work " . Cherish Twigg, MS, BCBA and Holly Kibbe, MS, BCBA - CEO and COO of Establishing Operations Inc. - (www.establishingoperationsinc. com) " Schramm has written a book that is a must read for parents, therapists, and teachers of children with autism. This book is clear, heartfelt, informative, and provides behavioral terminology in a way that is applicable and easy to understand. He has beautifully explained Applied Behavior Analysis as an effective, scientifically validated treatment for autism. 's book offers realistic hope in a world where it is needed most. We personally recommend this book to every parent or educator of a child in need. " Reg Reynolds, Ph.D., C.Psych " This is the best book on the Verbal Behavior approach to ABA that I have seen. If I was going to recommend only one book to either the parents of a child with autism or to anyone who is trying to help a child with autism, this is the book that I would recommend. It has a lot of important information that I wouldn't expect to find anywhere else. I would give it five stars out of five. " Childerston, MA (Montessori teacher and autism instructor) Like so many professionals committed to children with autism and their families, this author and professional truly walks on the side of angels. Just sent out word to the 10 BCBAs in the state to have them move the information forward. Have been networking with parent groups in this area as well acrossed the river from us. So thus far through these efforts we have 14 people. Haven't posted anything on the Me-list or the DTT/NET list as of this date. If you shoot me the email addresses for these as well as others I will post something. Any other suggestion would be appreciated. Will try to call tomorrow afternoon if that is possible. Thanks. ________________________________ Date: Tue, 7 Jul 2009 11:56:04 -0700 From: knospeaba_robert@... Subject: Re: Chicago Workshop in July maryhig@... Hi , I am sorry to hear that your registration is low. Do you have a website set up for people to find you? I have not seen any advertisement on any of the National listserves of which I am a member. Have you contacted your local FEAT chapter or other local parent network groups? Have you gone through the BACB website and emailed all the local (Statewide) BCBA's about the workshop and forwarded them a flyer to share with their clients or therapists? Do you have a flyer .pdf that I can make available? Let me know what you have done so far so I can help you hit more people. _________________________________ Schramm, MA, BCBA Author of Educate Toward Recovery: Turning the Tables on Autism www.lulu.com/knospe-aba www.knospe-aba.com _________________________________ " There is no greater testament to character than the selfless act designed to go unnoticed " ________________________________ From: Higinbotham <maryhig@...> Schramm <knospeaba_robert@...> Sent: Tuesday, July 7, 2009 6:44:37 AM Subject: RE: Chicago Workshop in July : Thanks for the email. Subject: Re: Chicago Workshop in July sharonwatts5@...; maryhig@... Hi Sharon, (and ) How are you? I just looked back through my inbox and I cannot find the email you (Sharon) are talking about. How is the registration going? I put some time and effort into publicity after you (Sharon) told me about the slow start. I am hoping it is paying off. I know I have had at least 4 or 5 people come back to me asking for info and I have forwarded your flyer. The audio/video needs are pretty basic. I will have a laptop with me. All I will need to go with that are An LCD projector and Screen large enough for the room. Some form of sound amplification that I can plug into my laptop And if the room is large enough with enough people, I might need a microphone (handless, something that I can wear on my lapel or like a headset. Other than that, just the workbooks. I will be bringing copies of my book for sale as well at reduced rates. If there are any other questions or if you need any further clarification you can email me and to be sure we can connect, my phone number is (310) 469-2070 (we are currently in California about 2 hours behind you). Call anytime with any questions. Oh, and I will need event location information from both of you. I am planning on having a GPS. So, an address with Zip code should be enough. Hope all is well. I am looking forward to seeing you both soon. _________________________________ Schramm, MA, BCBA Author of Educate Toward Recovery: Turning the Tables on Autism www.lulu.com/knospe-aba www.knospe-aba.com _________________________________ " There is no greater testament to character than the selfless act designed to go unnoticed " ________________________________ From: Sharon Watts <sharonwatts5@...> Schramm <knospeaba_robert@...> Sent: Monday, July 6, 2009 6:48:36 PM Subject: Chicago Workshop in July Hi , I e-mailed you last week - sorry to bug you again but the people helping me organize the workshop need to know what kind of audiovisual equipment you will need and if you have any other requests.
